As a designer of HP computer printers, he's prudent to want to be armed at all times. Jam-stressed secretaries will be stalking.

If he gets a pied-a-terre in, say, Alexandria, he can carry whatever he wants in DC if he says he is travelling to or from the House, since during that time he is Constitutionally immune from arrest.

Ask for the whole enchilada. If you get half, you are still better off.
My understanding, though, is that any congresscritter can get U.S. Marshal credentials. Then they can carry anywhere in the U.S.

Which part of 'shall not be infringed' are you having problems with?
I can explain it, if you need help.

Actually, I don't think he has to worry. Any Democrat can tell you that those laws only apply to "common" people. Members of the governement don't have to worry about the law. (Just ask Ted Kennedy)

Last week, Gothard wrote Washington Metropolitan Police Chief Charles Ramsey, asking permission to carry the machine gun as his primary weapon and the pistol as his backup. Well, at least he's got his priorities straight! Who was is that said, "A handgun is what you use to fight your way back to your rifle!"?

Handguns may be carried legally, but only by a small number of persons whose weapons were registered before the handgun law was enacted in 1976, and who re-registered by 1978. Gentile said the only waivers are granted to law enforcement and security workers. Rifles and shotguns can be legally owned, if licensed. Actually, if I remember correctly, I read that there is a waiver that's given to congress-critters who want to carry concealed weapons... I believe that they become some sort of quasi-federal law enforcement officers, who are allowed to carry.

If for no other reason, this guy should be erected to high office just for his Jesse Ventura type humor.
Gotta love it.

--in the case of Orrin Hatch, he was appointed a deputy U. S. Marshal so he could possess weapons--I don't know about carrying--

and destroy nuclear weapons, perhaps unilaterally. It is amazing how Libertarians personify the whacked out right and left.
I guess Mr. Gothard thinks his machine gun will protect him from a nuclear weapon launched by Saddam Hussein.

Hand grenades, the weapons of choice for citizens seriously concerned about their safety. One lob and you get a bunch.

It's a publicity stunt from someone who couldn't get his name in the paper on any other occasion. It would be nice if the Libertarians would learn to work their way up in government from town councils instead of trying to go straight to national politics.

Well we sure do attract the wacked out right fruitcakes, - like you, dane.

In particular, I liked his way of getting free publicity, great ploy for someone who couldn't get his name in the paper any other way.
It would be nice if more Libertarians would learn to use these methods to work their way up in government, - from town councils to go straight into national politics.

Clint Smith, Owner of Thunder Ranch in his Ten Rules of Gunfighting, although he may not have been the first to say it.
To: archy
It would have made more sense if he was elected he just started carrying the MP5. By asking for permission he's deflated the position of a right.
