Bob Grant was an institution, for more than 4 decades, in N.Y.C. and its environs. He's the " father of Conservative talk radio " ! He didn't Bush bash, and was opposite Sean Hannity ... so there ALWAYS has been a competition with / an alternative to Sean. Ergo, what you said, was not only incorrect, but silly.
When Bob ran into some problems, got booted from WABC and went to WOR , his fans followed. He lost his " edge " / what made him Bob Grant , and many of his decades old fans ( me included ) went over to listen to Hannity. Those who stayed, won't stay for O'Rielly. I know this situation, the people involvd, the history behind it all, and the sort of people who listen to both shows. You don't even know that Sean already had a Conservative talk show against him in the N.Y.- tri-state area.
I am ambivilant about O'Rielly. Yes, I usually watch his T.V. show; but find it boring at times, and Bill annoying, arrogant, abrasive, sometimes waaaaaaaaaay off the mark, and thought that his radio show was a pale take of the T.V. show. I went back to listening to Sean.
No, it isnt " too soon " to make an evaluation. New Yorkers don't stick with losers. If the Yankees have a losey year or three, the fans stay away. Same for the Mets, and every other sports team. Many of Grant's listeners are no doubt quite angry about BoR being stuffed down their throat, and won't even give him a chance. If his show doesn't improve ( and because it isn't a " local " show, dealing with LOCAL news , there's little reason to listen now ) and it won't be " better " than Hannity's show ; which is now national. There's little reason for peole to tune in to Bill. Sean, though national, still does do some local , N.Y. / tri-state stuff. O'Rielly has a VERY hard road to hoe here. He isn't going to do better than Sean ; won't even be close to Sean's ratings.
I know this market. You don't ! I would not ever try to expound upon something I know nothing about. Try to emmulate that wise course. : - )
