Good, relatively unbiased reporting on the Correspondent's dinner, and interesting gossip about what's happening at the NY Times as well

"W. gave me a thumbs-up—literally—when I approached him," Mr. Drudge said. "Clinton would have been like, ‘Get him the fuck out of here.’"

LOL!

Very much so. Thanks for the post. I love seeing stuff like this in print:

"But there was Beverly Hills, 90210’s Shannen Doherty, G.O.P. bad girl, enthusing about her trip to the White House that day (eat your heart out, Chloë Sevigny). Ms. Doherty said she couldn’t have cared less about the White House itself—she wanted to see the stars who worked inside. "I would have never stepped foot in the Clinton White House!" she said. "They were sleazy."

Part of that legacy thingy...

"Clinton would have been like, 'Get him the fuck out of here."

And Bill would have echoed her sentiments, I'm sure.

The article didn't mention that Harrison looked like he wasn't having much fun at the dinner. Reading this part made me grin that sly grin...

Mr. Ford stayed quiet, agreeing to have his picture taken with the fewest words possible. A man approached him and pointed to a woman standing against the wall beside him.

"Peggy Noonan," the man said. "Ronald Reagan’s speechwriter. Do you have two seconds?"

Mr. Ford did. "We ended up talking about our teenage sons," said Ms. Noonan, a Wall Street Journal columnist and G.O.P. tub-thumper. "He was very nice. And I think he felt a little bit shy because he was overwhelmed."

Peggy Noonan had assuaged Han Solo. The tail really was wagging the dog.

Leave it to Peggy to melt that crotchety old liberals heart! :-)

"But now it’s like L.A.," Mr. Alter said. "And in L.A., journalists are scum."

That pretty much goes for any other city in America as well, Mr. Alter, you Klinton/Algore fellating jerk.

Doherty is a Southern Baptist and has been a Republican for a while (she's even lead the Pledge at the Convention).

Here's a quote from 1993:
"The thing is that this is a free country, and nobody should be criticized for their political beliefs. We're all allowed to have our opinions. I'm a conservative. I was an avid supporter of Ronald Reagan; I thought he was fabulous. I still think [Bush has] been a good president. I realize that the majority of people in the entertainment business happen to be Democrats. I have no problem with that. And they should have no problem with the fact that I'm a Republican."

Harrison Ford looked bored silly at the dinner. And why the h*ll was he there anyway? Guess he's looking for a new honey now that he dumped his second wife. Typical liberal.

"In an ironic way," said Representative Peter King of Long Island...

Figures. Peter King is apparently a graduate of the Alanis Morrissette Vocabulary College.

"I will do anything!" Ms. Coulter said to Mr. Fleischer. "I’ll swear to you you’ll like it! I will do anything!" (Later, when asked if Mr. Bush might honor Ms. Coulter’s request, Mr. Fleischer said, "Well, I don’t know. I have to read it first.")

How about me, Ann? For an offer like that, I'll carry your book. Since you will do anything, how about a three-some with Petra Verkaik as the third party?

Then why did she marry a known heroin addict?

Thanks for the great post.

As great as the coverage of the party was, I think I found myself more interested in the folks fleeing the NY Times, or actually fleeing NYC itself.

LOL! I was thinking much the same thing. Peggy seems so approachable and non-threatening, she wouldn't immediately raise a liberal's hackles, and thus could get a good interview!

actually, I wouldn't mind having Harrison Ford as GWB in films. Would he agree to?

Thanks for the ping! Interesting take. I wonder how many California journalists will appreciate being called "scum" in that Jonathan Alter quote? Har!

Also interresting about the Times having trouble keeping people. Low salaries, one of the reasons given, could be because income is down. Har again!

All in all, a most enjoyable report.

Harrison Ford is one of the biggest liberals in Hollywood. And the guy is a total hypocrite. I wouldn't want him playing GWB.
