That information was from other articles I have read including this one. The other article that I read said the assassin was an environmental extremist.

Fortuyn suspect 'is animal rights activist'
Staff and agencies
Tuesday May 7, 2002

The 32-year-old man being held in connection with the assassination of the rightwing Dutch populist politician, Pim Fortuyn, is a vegan animal rights activist with no criminal record. The man, from the central Dutch town of Harderwijk in the county's bible belt, wrote on a website that he used legal means to fight permits for factory farms and fur farms, and that "protecting animals is civilising people". Police have not released the suspect's name. Radio Netherlands reported that Mr Fortuyn had recently said he would lift a ban on raising animals for fur.

Mr Fortuyn, a flamboyant, openly gay man known to dote on his two pet King Charles spaniels, was known primarily for his zero immigration policy and outspoken criticisms of Muslim culture as "backward". However his environmental policy was unclear. Joost Eerdmans, a candidate for Mr Fortuyn's party in the May 15 general election, told the Reuters news agency: "We don't have a very developed policy on animal rights. We were busy developing it." "[Mr Fortuyn] had two dogs. They were his life since he didn't have a partner. He loved animals. There is no mistake about that," he added.

Mr Fortuyn was shot dead yesterday evening by a lone gunman after giving a radio interview in the town of Hilversum near Amsterdam. He bled to death in the radio station's car park as paramedics attempted to resuscitate him. Police were reported to have searched the suspect's house and seized ammunition that matched the empty cartridges found at the murder scene, as well as environmental materials. The suspect has not made a statement, public prosecutors said, and he was calm when police arrested him yesterday evening.

The real title is "Gay Dutch Leader Slain By Gunman" (tsk, tsk, rightwing2).

But there have been several other articles today about the suspect in custody, in which he was described by local law officials as an "extremist", and some of them describe "environmental literature" found in his home. Some of us are speculating he's a Greenie.
