How Oracle screwed California
The Register, U.K. ^ | April 29, 2002 | Andrew Orlowski in San Francisco

Posted on 05/06/2002 12:00:11 PM PDT by d14truth

Californian taxpayers paid millions of dollars too much for Oracle database software and support, thanks to a former Oracle employee, and his assistant, who now works for Oracle's law company. Normal competitive tendering rules were not followed, and the pair were pressured by staff from Governor Gray Davis office to sign an Enterprise Licensing Agreement covering far more users than the state actually employees in a deal worth $93 million.

Governor Davis' office received $25,000 in campaign contributions gift five days after the deal was signed.

Fishy? You bet. But the scandal has found its first scapegoats in the shape of two civil servants: the head of the State's IT advice department. Elias Cortez, who worked for Oracle in 1997, and contracts chief Barry Keene, a former state senator. Both resigned on Friday.

"$41 million is chump change compared to the billions the state has spent buying its way out of a self-inflicted energy crisis, but it indicates that mismanagement goes all the way to the Governor's office."

' 'Unvarnished', and it sounds like the 'truth'. {;~)

Great find!

Benito Davis and his buds in Sacramento will have a hard time silencing the foriegn press when stories like this are hitting. Unlike our Kali Fish wraps, these out of country newspapers are not in bed with Benito Davis, Whoreacle and the Rats in the legislature in Sacramento.

How long will it be before the real criminals, those in charge of the Rat Party start to really "silence" those involved. If this continues to leak out, this could be bad news for Rat Senators up for relection, Rat Congressits and Rat Governors in other states where Whoreacle has used pimps to get business.

Anyone connected with this, for their safety and family's safety probably should immediately call up John Ashcroft to make a deal. Then, roll over on Davis et al and Whoreacle and go to another state with a new name and identity! We could start seeing a rash of Kalicides like the Arkrazycides when Bubba was governor in Arkrazy.

The CEO of Oracle is a long time Clinton rump swab.

Been waiting for someone to point that out. Larry Ellison, right? Isn't he also the guy that wants to develop an identity card and/or chip for every man, woman and child in the US? I've also heard that he is a greedy $OB who flaunts his wealth even more so than your typical limousine liberal or nouveau riche fool. Creepy. Hope he doesn't skate like the rest of the Dem/Clintonista scum...

I guess I need a bit more to get outraged directly at the Oracle deal. An "enterprise licensing agreement", for a large outfit, usually makes sense. The terms of the are the key. Personally, if I were in sales, I'd try for a real cheap deal for all of the known users and a high per-user charge thereafter.

Where I really have questions is "basic competitive tendering practice". That can mean so many things. Does it mean that Sybase competes on equal terms with Oracle, even though Oracle is an incumbent? If so, that's stupid. Of course, it's also stupid to be so locked in, on every project, that your hands are totally tied. I'm guessing, that's the real crime here. Gross incompetence.

It sounds like Oracle had a good lock-in going, and got very greedy, instead of being a pretty good partner. A mature company doesn't do that to a prominent customer, such as a major company or state agency unless they are under duress.

I just do hope the salesman cashed the commission check before he got fired. Maybe put it in escrow. But he did his job.

Not only that, but his concept of competition is to let the hounds from hell, (government), abuse his competitors. Why do you suppose that Ellison has been involved in the Microsoft case? He's jealous of Gates and rather than attend to him in the marketplace he attackes in the courts.

Of course he would want a national ID, with the need for an all encompassing database, Oracle, of course. And I bet there would be a little back door for the weasels at the DNC to track everything we do!

TINFOIL ALERT!

Maybe you should send a copy of this article and others to Bill Gates. I am sure he would get some satisfaction out of seeing Ellison and Oracle face some legal trouble.

I'm sure that behind closed doors the MS management knows more about this than we do. I'm sure that they are enjoying the visual of Ellison and Whoreacle under the wheels of Justice (of course not in Kali with Whoreacle's $100000 Pimp playing as our Attorney General!

The best way to send a message to Bill Gates is to buy a new Computer with XP or buy XP to update your computer.

Good, there are enough us buying his products instead of what Jake Reno wanted us to buy, that he will not miss your lack of business. Better buy a whole bunch of Whoreacle products though, they might need some business.
