The Archdiocese of Boston abruptly backed out of a settlement agreement with 86 people who have accused now-defrocked priest John Geoghan of child molestion, saying Friday that the deal would strip it of too many resources. Rejecting Cardinal Bernard Law's request to sign the deal, the archdicese's finance council refused to fund the agreement, estimated to be worth $15 million to $30 million.

According to AP this is the first time since 1984 that the Council did not go along with Cardinal Law. Perhaps this is the begining of the end.

To practicing Catholics in Boston: Think twice before you toss your check into the collection basket on Sunday. Where is your money actually going? To struggling, good (i.e. heterosexual, chaste and celibate) young men in orthodox seminaries or to payoff Law's coverup of known predatory, homosexual priests. Law himself will soon require a huge legal defense fund. Don't help him or the demons he's unleashed.

Okay I might admit that these people have been harnmed. But why should my donations go to the victims? I have a problem with this.

I'm sorry that you've misunderstood me. I'm not encouraging direct donations to victims, unless you, yourself wish to do so. I'm encouraging withholdment of donations to an out"Law" diocese. You can better put your money to any good cause (Catholic or otherwise) that you're comfortable with.
P.S.
My post was to practicing Catholics in Boston. Your situation in Maryland is your own problem.

Ardara, any chance you are from County Donegal?
