There is more to President Bush's relatively high approval ratings than just the patriotic, rally-round-the-flag effect of his leadership in the war on terrorism, a new USA TODAY/CNN/Gallup Poll suggests.
Built on the faith Americans showed in him following his response to terror attacks on Sept. 11, the poll shows that almost eight months later Bush has developed an image among most Americans as a strong, competent, leader who shares their values and has elevated respect for presidency.

If you are so " special " , then run for electoral office, and see what you can accomplish ... IF you even win. LOL
Seriously, a better thing to do, dear, is work for / help to elect a winnable candidate, who shares your views; however, even then, you can't bank on his / her being able to warm the cockles of your heart, by accomplishing EVERYTHING that you might desire.
Nope, you are soooo wrong. I am not a liberal nor am I a democrat lurking the Freepers--I am just not your brand of conservatism. Since I agree with Bush, I must be his brand of conservatism, maybe compassionate conservatism is not what you agree with.
You are the Rush Limbaughs of the suburbs--intolerant of any difference in opinion and are willing to die on principle rather than unite the people on your side. How can you convince me of the "statisms worry" when you come out with both barrels, and you shoot first and then you ask questions?
I am not in the Buchanan, Bauer, Falwell, Coulter, conservatism right but I am a Republican, I am active in my county republican party. I write pro republican letters to the editor.
I do believe in military might, permanent tax cuts with removal of the death tax, education with no child left behind and accountability, no pork spending, no cloning, no abortions, drilling in ANWR, no litmus test for judges, conservative Supreme Court judges who interpret the constitution and not make law--I do believe that I am a conservative--just not the brand you have labelled yourself.
In my opinion, you sound like a right winger of the Republican party. I accept that--but I won't accept you bashing my president. President Bush stands for MY values, and he speaks for MY beliefs and I want my president to be the president for all the people. That won't make him an abortionist, or have him repeal taxes, or have him quit talking about God or have him vote against cloning. Yet he too is their president.
The emotion shown in the White House interview with questions on 9/11 - "I'm a loving guy but I've got a job to do" as others were ridiculing him for not returning to the White House immediately the day of the bombing really showed the man we have. I thanked God for providing George Bush for us.
My belief, though, is that the media, as well as the Republican leadership, is lying about needing to move to the left to win. Standing on PRINCIPLE is what wins elections, not this namby-pamby nonsense.
Bush's "Compassion" is just another word for Liberal.
I have a list of what needs to be done to turn the country around, and there are about 15-20 issues that have to be dealt with. However, they're entirely rational, make sense, and they would help rebuild this country economically, Constitutionally, socially, and even help instill morals, though it is God's will for any of this to happen.
The only problem is the mass media, and I agree, they will sneer at you. However, they're a bunch of anti-American, irrational, give us the latest Hollywood Gosip bunch of out-of-touch individuals that I've ever seen. Many of them are mean-spirited.
Your iability to understand reality, is palpable. What you wanat is instant gratification, and you aren't ever going to get that.
I bet you have brown eyes...hehehehe, I'll let you figure that one out. : - )
For one thing - Bush has told the congress not to expect him to filter their legislation for them. The laws they pass - are the laws they are responsible for sending through. Maybe it will make them take their jobs more seriously if they have to answer for the legislation they put through.
Yup! But they are getting a little bachlash tonite. I am glad to see it!
My rolaid consumption was increasing to 1992-2000 levels.
exactly and a very good point
All our ancestors were immigrants (unless you are a native AMerican)--President Bush was ONLY extending the law regarding the immigrants who had to apply for the green card but b/c of 9/11 those applications could not be done and therefore the immigrant had to go back home and start all over again the process.
Explain to me--if it was ok before 9/11 (there was a law supporting that but it ran out) why is that law now no good? Bush wanted merely to extend it--the media and you folks you like to hyperventilate kept calling it amnesty. Remember the old rule--repeat something enough times and loud enough and all will believe you. You and others keep calling it amnesty but it was NOT AMNESTY.
Amnesty is telling all illegals whether they had paperwork or not that they were forgiven and all was ok. That is not what 245(i) was about. Your facts on the law are not correct.
