This is the last obstacle to the HP-Compaq deal.

More like the door to the head on a tuna boat.

Another corporate charlatan turns a legendary tech innovator into a two-bit tech exploiter.

Time for Willie Green to warm-up the keyboard. There's going to be some major layoffs going down. I know somebody in the inside and it's going to be ugly. Thousands of people have already been selected for extinction on "Day One" and they were waiting on the outcome of this suit to pull the trigger.

Julie Packard is turning that company from the well-run and happy machine it was into a tangled mess befitting her communist politics. I really feel for the fine people who built that company into one of the greatest product development institutions the world has ever seen. They don't deserve what is going to happen.

May she lose every penny.

This inept executive will go down as being responsible for the demise of a great and innovative corporation. Her tenure at HP has been a disaster to date. This company, formerly one of the great innovators of the Silicon Valley, is now a producer of shoddy printers, PCs and scanners. They make their profit by selling ink cartridges at highly inflated prices, but now, replacements are being sold via the internet at half the cost. In a year or two, Carly will be shown the door by the same board that just canned the son of a founder, who represents 18% of the stock holdings. Sayonara HP.

There's going to be some major layoffs going down.

It would be nice if some of these "high-tech" layoffs had skills transferrable to "heavier" industries such as nuclear power, desalination plants and construction of mass-transportation systems such as maglev and high-speed rail. Directing our attention to development of infrastructure has long-term benefits for everybody!

Yes, we certainly need more projects like the Big Dig in Boston. $14 Billion and counting.

Doom and misery follow this woman around like a shadow. She destroyed Lucent, she's well on her way to destroying HP and now her next challenge is Compaq. Surely the HP board of directors is filled with fools.

Suggestion: if you still have any HWP or CPQ stock, sell now.

William R. Hewlett Revocable Trust Comments on Decision By Delaware Chancery Court Source.

PALO ALTO, Calif., Apr 30, 2002 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Walter B. Hewlett, on behalf of The William R. Hewlett Revocable Trust and its trustees, issued the following statement in response to today's ruling by the Delaware Chancery Court regarding Hewlett-Packard Company's (HWP) acquisition of Compaq Computer Corporation (CPQ):

While we are disappointed with the Court's decision, we are grateful that it heard this case on such an expedited timeframe. We will now review the Court's written opinion and decide on a course of action.

Regardless of our decision, my involvement with HP will not end today. As Chairman of The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and as a trustee of The William R. Hewlett Revocable Trust, I represent two major stockholders and I will continue to monitor the company's performance to ensure that it acts in the best interests of all stockholders.

20% layoff will not surprise me, but will sadden me. One of the truly great technology companies died today.

Now you know two on the inside. And you are right, there is some frettin goin on. A lot of folks seem to be making "pull-alliances" quick fast and in a hurry cause they know that the axe is coming. The really sad part is that the folks that deserve to stay (because they are actually productive) are going to get cut because they won't play the politics of pull.

For the first time in about 10 years, I got an HP printer cartridge that simply
wouldn't work.
That was about 6 months ago. That, along with the need for my boss to shut down his
computer everytime his HP printer goes crazy...
it sure looks like HP is losing all it's luster.

What a shame. HP used to mean 99.99+% up-time, no matter what product you used...
everything from a data-logger to a gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer.

My understanding was that Hewlett is a musician and his pop was the tech innovator.

That is the price of overseas manufacturing. Especially when development is conducted domestically. You can's expect some turd-world slacker to care about quality.

Yes, it will be interesting to see how things unfold.
Here is how it will turn out: Lucent^H^H^H^H^HHP makes a series of stupid overpriced acquisitions that make it impossible to compare any two quarters until it all comes crashing down about three years from now. Same sh*t, different ticker symbol.

Oh, and by the way, this will be the year Sanjay and Charlie's scam at CA gets what's coming to it.
