I would heartily recommend anyone trekking across PA take Rte. 30 instead of the Turnpike.

Except in the dead of winter.
(Or they're in a hurry.)

It's been quite a few years since I've traveled on 30, but I don't imagine it's changed much: quite hilly and winding. It certainly IS scenic, but I'd advise tourists to use it only during pleasant weather conditions.

Adults would be more appreciative of Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater.

Has it fallen yet? I understand that there are major structural problems with the cantilevered decking.

Use'ta spread gravel on them thar roads in Ligonier for a short season back in '44. A nice town, then. Nice folks. Will always remember the good deeds they did for a young vagabond travelling through.
