Of course it is primarily the role of parents, but there are plenty of irresponsible parents out there. so this is viewed as intrusive because it requires lifting the skirt. what if the infraction was no bra and a sheer top, or say, bikini tops covering very little. would it be different then? is it NOT permissible for schools to have rules for dress that they can then enforce? I think a fair standard is, if it's in plain view it's fair game. IOW, if the skirt is flying up and exposing "sensitive areas", the school should take action. (Admittedly, I don't know how short the skirts in question were, so that could be the case here.) But if the thong underwear were not in plain view upon entry, I wouldn't go looking for them if I were an administrator.

but, what if, as postulated here, there had been incidents at previous school dances that indicate it had been a problem in the past? i think that is highly likely. And, as i said, i was just last week at a jr high dance at my kids school, and there was inappropriate dress that was spoken to by the principal. i think that once a problem makes itself manifest, the administration takes steps to preempt it. The aforementioned one shoulder tops that Sr. Theresa commented on last week, will likely be outlawed prior to the next dance.
