"the ones wearing the thongs were wearing them for one reason only and it was not because it was the most comfortable choice of undergarment available to them" What is this reason? If I had made that sort of comment about your wife or daughter what would you think I was getting at?

That one reason is to make themselves look sexy, inviting and tempting to their boyfriends. That doesn't make them sluts. It makes them normal teenagers suffering from hormone poisoning.

This is why they need guidance from parents on issues such as proper dress. Left to their own devices most would make choices that would have serious consequences that they had not forseen.

And these thongs were sported under very short dresses. On the dance floor there is no way they would be staying out of sight or underneath their clothing. That's why the girls wearing long skirts or slacks were not questioned or inspected.

And BTW, a thong is not worn for comfort. Have you ever had a length of dental floss wedged up you a$$? I haven't either but I'm told it's not comfortable.
On the right a$$, it's sexy...but not comfortable.

Ladies...am I wrong?

Teal's daughter made it in and claims to have witnessed faculty lifting the skirts of girls to assure that the offending underwear was going nowhere near the dance floor.

What the hell? This is ridiculous. 99% of the girls must have been kicked out because with most formals that's what you have to wear. Disgusting move on the principals part. I don't know what she thought she was accomplishing.

So you agree that a dress code, ie "No Short skirts" is okay? Or would that violate the Bill of Rights too? By the way nothing was indicated that the girls were groped or molested. Like I said I thought it was done clumsily, but I don't think it's a Constitutional Crisis.

How would you have it done and why?

HS students are not constitutionally entitled to wear what they want to a HS dance

I don't necessarily disagree with you here, but I feel this should have been a SHORT SKIRT issue, not a thong issue. How would wearing full-on granny panties and a short skirt have been much different? You can avoid the whole underware issue when the school sets limits on the shortness of the skirt. Like an inch or two above the knees? I'm not sure exactly was is appropriate because I've never worn a skirt (and my buddy Byron is a liar if he tells you different - a kilt is NOT a skirt!). There are other acceptable clothes the girls can wear to a dance - thong or no thong.

ummm, hate to bust your bubble Sam, but if ya can't see it without violating privacy,
how can it look 'sexy, inviting, tempting' or otherwise ??

well exactly, and if you read the article it is ONLY the girls with short skirts that were asked about the underwear, proving it was a short skirt issue. a thong with a granny skirt would have not been questioned, and yes a girlie with granny white hightops would be suspect, were she wearing a short skirt!

What kind of mother buys thong underwear for her daughter? What kind of mother allows her daughter to go to a dance in a short skirt wearing thong underwear? I immediately think of Chandra Levy and her parents and shudder. I am sure they would have revised their childrearing methods, if they only knew back then, what the path ahead was for their daughter. Thong underwear belongs on the honeymoon...not in the highschool.

You're joking right? Thongs prevent pantylines when wearing dress pants and dresses. Thongs don't "make people have sex". And I'm sure Chandra Levy didn't have a relationship with Condit because she wore thongs.

About three inches or four is the shortest you can wear to school here. But it is an issue of short skirts, not underwear.

I was in junior high in the late 60's/early 70's when hemlines began to rise. We had a female teacher who announced to all of her classes that she was sick and tired of standing in front of the class, looking out over a sea of exposed panty crotches. Her rule was that if she could see your panties, you would automatically be given a low mark in deportment/citizenship. Girls who wore short skirts were told to bring sweaters or towels to cover their laps in her classroom. The girls complied and everyone was happy. I think her complaint was entirely justified, and her solution entirely appropriate. (Of course, those were "the good old days"......sighhhhhhh)

Agreed, but again NONE of the SCHOOL's business.

And these thongs were sported under very short dresses. On the dance floor there is no way they would be staying out of sight or underneath their clothing. That's why the girls wearing long skirts or slacks were not questioned or inspected.

Well, like I've posted before I have yet to see thongs popping out of skirts at a dance club. However, this whole issue could have been avoided by creating reasonable guidelines for skirts. Thongs should be a non-issue

And BTW, a thong is not worn for comfort. Have you ever had a length of dental floss wedged up you a$$? I haven't either but I'm told it's not comfortable. On the right a$$, it's sexy...but not comfortable.

My fiancee' and all her friends love the comfort of a thong, some women don't. It doesn't make every person wearing a thong trying to attract men.

Nope, you're right on. I know some people who think they're comfortable. But I've only worn them with dresses, as do most people. And dress pants.

As is I think the school is screwed.

You might think that, but most people aren't aware of how tremendously broad the school's powers are. You might look up Bellnier v Lund, 438 F. Supp. 47 (1977), if you get the chance - it's about the propriety of strip-searches in schools. It's an interesting read - I think they're going to be just fine, legally speaking.

Thanks! :-) My mother's side of the family is still very tradional Scott. I wore a kilt with clan plaid at my grandfather's funeral. My friend ran into some pictures of the event, and told everyone I was wearing a skirt. HA! Who needs enemies . . .

Wow, and here I thought that thong underwear was to eliminate the unsightly VPL. (Visible Panty Line.)

And you're right. But some people seem to think thongs are "the devils panties" (have you ever seen Miss Congeniality?) and will lead to pre-marital sex and a complete breakdown of morals within society (or they are already a contributing factor).
