Thong-Wearing Teens Kicked Out Of Dance
A group of parents are calling for the resignation of Rancho Bernardo High School's vice principal, claiming she enforced underwear checks at a school dance, 10News reported.
The dance occurred Friday and vice principal Rita Wilson turned away girls who were wearing thongs, the parent said.
Kim Teal is among the several parents angry with Wilson (pictured, right).
"First thing (my daughter) said when she got into the car was, 'Mom, it was horrible last night. You have to fight this,'" Teal told 10News.
According to parent Alane Garvik, girls who arrived at the dance wearing short skirts were immediately asked: "What kind of underwear do you have on?"
When Garvik's daughter red-facedly announced that she was wearing thong underwear she was told to "go home and put on appropriate underwear," according to Garvik.
Teal's daughter made it in and claims to have witnessed faculty lifting the skirts of girls to assure that the offending underwear was going nowhere near the dance floor.
"Well, I just saw ... a line of people and the vice principal, Mrs. Wilson, she was checking to see what the girls were wearing under their dresses. And she was literally lifting up their skirts and embarrassing them in front of everyone else," one student told 10News.
Parents and students have placed the blame on Wilson, for spearheading the thong underwear checks, even though there is nothing in the school dress code against them.
"It's not their right to know what kind of underwear these kids have," Garvik told 10News.
10News contacted school officials, who all declined to go on camera. But Principal Paul Gentle did say that he is "looking into the situation."
Parents are now asking for Wilson to resign.
Gentle said that even while enforcing the school dress code, it is not proper procedure to ask students what they are wearing underneath their clothes.
He told 10News that he plans to meet with parents sometime this week.
My issue is with the physical action, if verified, of the vice principal lifting up the skirts of the girls wearing short skirts and doing so in a public forum. That is the distinction I am making. If the complaining students account is accurate, would you condone having your child searched in this manner?
Yeah, but imagine the history books. What am I gonna tell my grandkids in 40 years?
"Sit down kids, and let grandpappy tell you about the great restoration of the Constitution, and how thong underwear is responsible for this golden age we live in..."
Doesn't exactly fit alongside the Boston Tea Party, does it? ;)
perhaps not quite as epic,
but if it got us back to where we started in 1787,
i'd say the 'ends' justified the means, no ??
No kidding!
Why?
How does wearing a certain type of undergrament make one a slut - you're going to have to expand on that one.
And it is time to let these young gals know they will be viewed as such if they do this.
You think its ok to call girls who wear thongs a slut? I know many girls, good girls, church going types, who wear thongs - they are not sluts. Sounds like a contradiction - which logically cannot exist - check your premises. How are one type of undergarment hurting society - you're going to have to expand this thought as well.
I wasn't asleep in class enough to know there ain't too much common law in the Constitution, Bill. Findlaw on Common Law.By the way, general_re is exactly right. I'm arguing what is, not what should be.
Well, it may depend on what court room you are in. The 7th Amendment affords the Right to Suits in common law. Common Law courts MUST operate under the Constitution, wherein, the jury is the trier of fact and law. This is in marked distinction to the courts of Equity, that our rulers have moved us into, where the Judge is the trier of law, and does not necessarily even have to follow the Constitution.
Nonetheless, I know what IS. I know how things actually work. That does not mean that I have to like it or fall into lockstep with all the sheople who have no problem with the State usurping their individual Rights -- you know, those who will let the State walk them right into the incinerators without a fight.
I think for the most part that sums up the situation - comfort and wanting to avoid "panty lines".
I never used the word 'slut' so don't try to 'put words into my mouth'.
No, you didn't use the word "slut," but you did say, "the ones wearing the thongs were wearing them for one reason only and it was not because it was the most comfortable choice of undergarment available to them" What is this reason? If I had made that sort of comment about your wife or daughter what would you think I was getting at?
A grown woman doesn't need to give a reason why she wants to wear a thong. A young teenage girl under the guidance of an attentive adult most certainly does.
As I have said before I have no problem with school dress codes, in fact, I think they are a good thing. What a person wears on the outside could be quite distracting and irresponsible for someone of a certain age. However, what the person is wearing underneath those particular dress-code approved clothing be it granny panties, thongs, or nothing, is not the schools business.
I've seen plenty of thongs in my day (not something I am bragging about nor do I feel particularly proud about this), but I can assure everyone here, the same "bits" covered by briefs are covered by a thong.
sometimes this place truly cracks me up !
I was wondering how long it would take for this to get posted.
The allegation of "skirt lifting" was made by *one* student who was present at the event and supported by *two* parents who were not.
Doesn't mean it didn't happen, but it does make me wonder if the student might have exaggerated just a bit to add some drama. Wouldn't be the first time a High School kid did this.
On the flip side, it also wouldn't be the first time an administrator used extremely poor judgment.
What I am surprised by is the bigotry towards those girls or women who choose to wear thongs - talk about a non-sequitur. I guess I didn't know to be a conservative one had to wear granny panties.
well then, nevermind.
no harm, no foul ....
un-friggin-believable
