Did you mean to say that people in shock don't think about toxic air or inhaling asbestos initially......well, did you really????????

I own an asbestos removal firm in NJ. We do most of our work in NYC.
After 9/11 our workers were on site at the WTC trying to help.
We set up portable decontamination systems, handed out hundreds of respirators with filters and thousands of eye wash kits.
It was a futile effort.
Other than providing immediate relief, we knew that the levels of toxicity were unbelievably high!
At the time, we all knew the EPA & NYC DEP were wrong, wrong, wrong. The lead, asbestos, pcb and other toxins were everywhere on everything for a ten block radius.
We knew there would be no way for anyone working there to not be contaminated by something with or without a respirator.
The filters can only do so much. And different filters are required for different substances. With contamination levels that high and fom so many different sources, serious health concerns were and are valid.
