I sometimes feel like sticking my head in the sand and wishing it would all go away ...Boy, do I know how you feel. Unfortunately, June is coming up and PRIDE parades will be sure to be chock full of floats with men with collars and little else ... I think you get the picture. I really think Courage might be a weapon that we Catholics can use to our advantage with the media, seeing as the media like to give "equal coverage" and all that. (Yeah, right!) I'm not a PR guy, but I'm sure there are some Catholics on the forum who are who would be interested in some activism. After all, we do still have a month to plan, right?
Take heart, friend. : )
From Cardinal Mahony's "fishy" service for the homosexual ministers.
We have a new rainbow colored fish pin designed by Ester Bentley as a means of recognition and as a fundraiser for our ministry. The pins are available for a $3.50 donation including shipping. The proceeds go to support Ministry With Lesbian & Gay Catholics. MLGC is a ministry of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles which promotes justice, equality and inclusivity of all gay and lesbian persons. Call or e mail us with your order
The pin comes on a card which reads:
Early Christians recognized each other by the sign of the fish.
See in this fish pin a sign of recognition of our lesbian and gay sisters and brothers.
The pin signals solidarity with all people of faith who promote justice and inclusivity for every person in their faith communities.
You go, girl! ;^)
Yes, but that's not enough...
Copper Sunday?
David Birchall is a Jesuit priest who has worked with many gay and lesbian individuals and groups. He has been running similar weekends for ten years. David currently works at the Jesuit Communication Centre, Dublin, after having spent 13 years at Loyola Hall. David qualified as a massage therapist at San Francisco School of Massage.
The more we dig the more disgusting it gets...
Jesuit priest and MASSAGE THERAPIST!?!?A real hands-on kind of guy. (Pardon the gallows humor : )
That is a truly heroic effort, having to work near occasions of sin.
This Sunday if Catholics will contribute pennies to the tithe, perhaps they will begin to listen.
Yes, yes, we know YOUR priest is one of the good guys and not part of the problem but it's clear the Bishops and Cardinals need a stonger message....
I like the idea, but is there any organization and is there a clear message that would be sent.
IMO, something like this needs more lead time. Say May 19. Also, it needs a unified message.
Something like:
"Those of who favor one strike your out, criminal prosecution of all perpetrators, weeding homosexuals out of the seminaries, and the promotion of orthodox leaders will be showing our displeasure with the current inaction of Catholic leaders by putting a single penny in the collection basket this Sunday."
And then start e-mailing it to every Catholic you know.
If I were to drop a penny in the Collection this Sunday, my saintly pastor may think it means I want female priestesses.
You know, you can look back at real men of God like St. Thomas Aquinas and see how priests are supposed to act--not absorbed with the flesh, but focused on the spirit. You can't serve two masters.
My how things change in 11 years.

I'm on board with this!
Will you start a thread with this, Diago? Or shall I? May 19th works for me!
Mary, Queen of All Saints, pray for us.
