The director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State is being sued in federal court in Alexandria for not allowing distribution of a tape in which he discusses homosexuality's compatibility with Christianity.
In a suit filed April 16, the Phoenix-based Alpha and Omega Ministries says Barry Lynn, a free-speech advocate and director for Americans United, does not want a debate in which he took part televised.

Gee, I wonder what his remarks might have been that he now wants to conceal them?
As to the use of his name, surely they can edit the tape so his name isn't used.
They can just refer to him as "Some Buttwipe from Americans United for Separation of Church and State!"
Any Freepers own the video or cassette?

Hmmm... what is the difference between the ACLU and a Libertarian? Most of the libertarians I have spoken w/ would not agree with most of the things the ACLU does.
Well, I've seen some folks claim to be "libertarian" and Christian. Plus, I've yet to meet a "libertarian" who wasn't full of suggestions as to how Christian must change their ways!
It depends on the topic:
Abortion? None (although a few will say States rights)!
Special rights for Homosexuals? None!
Pornography? None!
School prayer? None!
Public commemoration of the Ten Commandments? None!
Gun rights? Oops! Bit of a difference there, for sure.
Enforcement of the 10th Amendment? Uhhhhh, hmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Federal income tax? Don't even get them started.
Like I said, it depends.
Just as with the Republican party, Libertarians are split over the issue. There is no consensus one way or the other.
Special rights for Homosexuals? None!
Libertarians oppose any special privileges for any group on the grounds that such "rights" are typically accompanied by gross violations of private property.
Pornography? None!
I'm not certain about the official position of the party is on the issue of pornography but I personally oppose laws which restrict adults from access to it. I believe that if children are intentionally exposed to porn then grounds exist for criminal prosecution.
School prayer? None!
Since Libertarians oppose the public financing of education the issue of prayer in school is irrelevant. Libertarians are not opposed to prayer in privately financed schools where parents have the option of taking their children and money to another school.
Public commemoration of the Ten Commandments? None!
Public commemoration of the 10C is financed with taxpayers' money. Libertarians have no objections to the public display of the 10C as long as the display takes place on private property which is not financed with taxpayers' money.
Gun rights?
Libertarians oppose all gun control laws.
Enforcement of the 10th Amendment?
Libertarians recognize the importance of seperation of powers.
Federal income tax?
Libertarians wish to repeal the federal income tax and replace it with nothing. No flat tax. No value added tax. Nothing. The federal government collects around $300 billion annually from other taxes which is plenty of money.
LOL!
Doesn't (or didn't) the official Libertarian Party platform support abortion?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think at one time (maybe even today) the LP platform had language against restrictions on abortion.
Report that there was a breaking [wherever the tape is supposed to be stored] and list the tape of the debate as one of the things stolen.
Then put the footage from the video itself and a transcript of the dialogue on the internet.
....Am I the only one who thinks the way I do?
Is this the same dirtbag that Oliver North always has on his program?
Hmmm...homosexual compatibility with Christianity? In his drug induced dreams. Just another wacked-out amoral nutcase trying to reshape the gospel to suit his own personal perversions.
I think the official LP platform says something to the effect of the party not getting involved in the issue one way or another or that government ought not be involved. I don't know the precise wording. It's possible that at one time the platform contained language against restrictions.
Personally, the wording doesn't concern me. I'll continue to vote Libertarian regardless of the candidate's position on abortion because Libertarian policies will reduce the number of abortions. A Libertarian government would not subsidize lifestyles and reward behavior which is likely to result in unwanted pregnancies.
I often find more Libertarians voicing their opposition to legalized abortion than their support for it. I'd like to see the LP platform one day denounce abortion and endorse criminal penalties for it. I don't see it happening soon. On a positive note the LP has publicly called for the repeal of Roe vs. Wade on the grounds that it violates states' rights.
Although the Republican platform is opposed to abortion the issue is politicized. The party will never make a concerted effort to criminalize abortion because it would cost elections. As it stands, the RP position on abortion serves only as a magnet for one-issue-voters for whom no other issue matters. Until more people are educated on the issue that's just the way it's going to be.
