The Vatican has stated that the problem in indeed homosexuals in the priesthood, that they must not be ordained, and that homosexual behavior calls into question the validity of their Holy Orders, going so far as to state that the priest who knowingly went into Holy Orders to pursue this disorder may not have been validly ordained at all.

ping...get the SOBs out of the priesthood and the hierarchy!
Notice the abrupt change in terminology?!?
The hierarchy got a spanking from JPII for covering up the homosexual issue and denying it!!!
The media will never report it, and the hierarchy will never admit it, but JPII has told them in no uncertain terms to address the problem:
HOMOSEXUALS gotta GO!!!

priests who could be rehabilitated will instead be discarded. That's a bit of a double standard, considering that men and women outside the church caught in acts of pedophilia are usually destroyed career wise.

Experts in sexual disorders warn there is no evidence that homosexuals are more likely than heterosexuals to molest children. What blatent distortion. While homosexuals are not more likely to be pedophiles than heterosexuals, male homosexuals are far more likely to be attracted to post-pubuscent adolescents. I've seen studies that estimate as much as 1/3 of all homosexuals men pursue teenage boys.

From now on, I'm directing my church contributions to go directly to one priest working in a foreign mission.

It's not a PEDOPHILE problem....
It's not a SEX ABUSE problem.
It's a HOMOSEXUAL PREDATOR problem.
Now it's a problem that costs money, which is a REAL problem now. Where were all the self-righteous hypocrites when this was going on for the last 20-30 years, and probably longer. It's a pity that it took MONEY to bring the Pope into the fray.
Well better late than never is what I say.

Many also remain deeply concerned about comments from top-ranking prelates about a renewed need to bar homosexuals from the priesthood, regardless of whether they remain celibate. They should take the time and read the 1961 Vatican document "Sacred Congregation for Religious and Secular Institutes" which is referenced at the link.

While clergymen remain committed to ousting pedophiles from their ranks, they worry innocent men will be suspended and priests who could be rehabilitated will instead be discarded. I thought they couldn't be rehabilitated. Has something changed?

Sort of like an annulment, right?

priests who could be rehabilitated will instead be discarded. They tell us homosexuality is inborn, thus it can't be "rehabilitated", thus they SHOULD be discarded.

More kooks in denial, I guess. They should have realized by now that no amount of deviancy from Church teachings on sexuality will be tolerated. Any same-sex activity or behavior clearly has no place in Catholic religious life. How long did they think this American liberal freeloading party could go on? That's denial.
To: Dr. Brian Kopp
These comments also show how habitual and deeply ingrained these attitudes and dissent have become. Dare I say it, they indicate a sense of self-righteous entitlement among these deviants. How...Clintonesque...

Note the "lifeling obligation for housing, financial support, and other needs." Sounds like this queer is afraid he might actually have to work for a living like all the lay people paying for these scandals!

If the Church is truly repentant for the sins of some of it's priests, it should order that the affirmative defense of the Statute of Limitations be waived in all cases.
Otherwise, they are hiding behind a criminal veil.

calls from homosexual priests who are so frightened about the prospect of losing their jobs...We are not talking "jobs" here; we are talking about a "calling" in one's life of sacrifice (even perhaps with one's own life for justice), prayer, holiness and poverty. To accept the serious 'calling' and then betray it with scandal is a slap in the face of the church and it's true adherents.
If someone keeps his/her homosexuality tendencies entirely to him/herself, and does not indulge in action, what's there to worry about?
Maybe some guilty parties are trying to head off any possibility of they themselves being caught in the rectory in an embarrassing situation--since they know they cannot control themselves and fear of being 'busted'. And they accordingly are afraid of losing their "jobs?" Tough luck. Time to clean house.

Marianne Duddy, executive director of the gay Catholic advocacy group Dignity/USA, said she's been fielding calls from homosexual priests who are so frightened about the prospect of losing their jobs, they can't sleep at night and have sought counseling. Hirelings. Oh youse with little faith. Who wants those kind of people leading us anyway? When the chips are down even priests have to live by faith. Some of we the little people know what is to live by faith.

Experts in sexual disorders warn there is no evidence that homosexuals are more likely than heterosexuals to molest children. Silva called the idea of weeding out gays "absolutely absurd." "The problem isn't being oriented one way or the other. The problem is whether you can live a celibate life," Silva said. Whether celibate or not homosexuals think and act differently from normal men. Who, except for homosexuals, would want a priesthood that was dominated by them? Who would want a priesthood of homosexuals performing the function of role models for our youth?
To: Dr. Brian Kopp
I expect that the Vatican should be capable of distinguishing between Dignity--an organization that advocates the normalization of homosexual activity--and Courage--an organization that advocates homosexual celibacy. Those priests who have actively participated in the activities of Dignity should rightly be worried. As should those bishops, such as Thomas Gumbleton, who have lent their support to this organization.
As for future priests, they would be wise to weed out homosexuals altogether. For priests already ordained, it should be sufficient to weed out only homosexuals who have been politically active and have publicly taken dissident positions against the Church's clear teaching on these matters.

Under Catholic tradition, once a man is ordained, the church has a lifelong obligation to him for housing, financial support and other needs OK, let the Church build a giant Gloryhole Monastery somewhere and send them all there, but keep them out of the parrishes.

priests who are so frightened about the prospect of losing their jobsI thought the priesthood was a calling, not a job. Very interesting reaction.

Holy Father's summons to Rome was extraordinary and meant that the American hierarchy can no longer claim ignorance of his insistance on adherence to holiness in their ranks. This would include adulterous, home-wrecking clerics, as well. Unfortunately, they still don't get it. BTW, the perps can be forgiven and still be defrocked.
