When two guys marry, which is the husband and which is the wife? If they're "Christians", who plays the head of the family? Which one says "Love, honor and obey"? Do they flip a coin? Do they take turns, on alternating days? Which one shows up for the Father-Daughter dance? The Mother-Daughter fashion show?

I once silenced my very liberal college professor uncle on this subject by asking, "Well, if you're going to sanction same-sex marriages, why not men and boys? What's the objection to that? And if that, why not women and dogs?"

At a time when marriage needs all the support and participation it can get, homosexuals are pleading to move beyond cohabitation. We want the licenses, the vows, the rings, the honeymoons, the anniversaries, the benefits, and, yes, the responsibilities and the routines. And who is telling us just to shack up instead? I have no idea. That's my wife's department. That illustrates my point - if two guys marry, they duplicate all the functions otherwise apportioned according to traditional sex roles. Marriage isn't supposed to double your workload and complicate your life. It's supposed to make things easier, via delegation of responsibility. Among other things.
