A breakaway city in the San Fernando Valley could support itself financially, according to a report released Friday by the state agency overseeing the Los Angeles secession movement.

The report also concludes that although Los Angeles would suffer some financial harm, it could be offset by annual payments made by the breakaway city.

The findings appear to boost supporters of the movement to break off Los Angeles' sprawling residential section of more than 1 million people and create the nation's sixth-largest city.

A majority of voters in the seceding communities and in the city as a whole must support secession for it to prevail.

Tyrrany of the majority. What a crock. It'll never happen.

Turn it into a fight of the blacks against the Hispanics and they may vote to be seperated. They can't stand each other already and may like the idea of living in separate cities.

Huh? Why would they do this? Why would they want to pay the city, except for services that this city provides?

I am in favor of Valley succession. I hope they elect a pro-CCW police chief.

Don't be so hasty. The vote is scheduled to occur at the same time as secession votes for San Pedro and Hollywood. The three areas comprose much more than half the city's electorate.

There's also some local politics to help the effort. Hahn is one of the biggest opponents of secession. Before he dissed LAPD Chief Bernie Parks, Hahn would have been able to count on the Black vote out of South Central to help block the proposal. But he just severed that link by calling for Parks to be let go. If he had enough time, he might have been able to forge stronger links to the Latino community to replace those estranged Black voters, but this vote is coming up too soon for that.
