In this month's issue of American Fire Journal, I noticed an this item:
An Orange County, CA firefighter's wife has created a limited-edition bronze memorial sculpture to be given to each family of a firefighter who perished during the 9-11 attacks on the World Trade Center. The Orange County Fire Family Auxiliary has taken up the cause, deeming it the "Tribute Project". Each of the 343 sculptures is personalized with the name of the fallen firefigher and the date on a bronze plaque attached ot the marble base. Letters accompanying the sculptures identify the names of sponsors, who are presently being solicited to underwrite the $125 cost. Upon completion of the project, the OCFFA will offer a pewter version of the sculpture to the public, with funds going to support firefighters, their families and various fire-related charities nationwide.
I was thinking that we here at Free Republic could sponsor one for John Moran. It's only $125 and I think it would be a wonderful way of honoring him. There is a picture of the statue and it is really very nice. If there are enough people here who want to do it, I'll contact this woman in Orange County and get it going. Please let me know what you think.

Actually, vetnet has created the artwork that went along with THE BALLAD OF MIKE MORAN. We have been trying to find a sponsor for a twelve foot high bronze statue to be put in front of a New York building or even at the WTC.
GO HERE then click on ORDER ARTWORK. We hope this avenging angel will be a powerful symbol. Additionally, for fundraising efforts, there will be smaller versions produced.

I hope we can do both.

I certainly will. I'm thinking that if everyone who wishes to donate let's me know how much they want to contribute, I will put it all together. And to keep it Kosher, I'll have everyone write the checks out to the Firefighter's family auxiliary, or whatever the organization is. How does that sound?

Afternoon bump. I've contacted the Orange County Firefighters Family Auxiliary Assoc. who are doing this. I hope to speak with someone this afternoon. I am going to do this and I'm hoping that Free Republic will have its name on sponsorship, although by the response so far, it doesn't look like it's going to happen that way.

Yes, that is it. Thank you. I actually spoke with Lynn Dodge today. She told me that John Moran has already been sponsored by the LA Fire Dept. There are 120 or so more that needs sponsoring. I think we should still do it. What do you all think?
