Senate Defeats Arctic Drilling
MSNBC ^ | 4/18/02 | DoveTurnedHawk

Proponents of drilling for oil in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge fell 14 votes short of the 60 needed to shut off Senate debate on the proposal Thursday, thereby losing the chance to vote on it. A House-Senate conference committee will need to reconcile the House-passed energy bill — which would allow drilling in the refuge — with any energy bill the Senate passes, giving proponents of Arctic drilling another opportunity to reach their goal.

I might amend that just a tad..."the democrats want to keep us dependent on TERRORIST oil"...the Saudis are NOT our friends.

That's the truth, as the democrats are keeping us dependent on oil from Saudi Arabia. Now who is the real enemy in America?

Either you are with us, or you are not with us.

President Bush said that immediately after 9/11, he should take appropriate actions.

I'm sure within the next 100 years our need for two-story cars and a BigMac on every corner will result in the destruction of most of our National Parks and reserves.

Nah, no need to worry, within a hundred years you will be worrying about making sandals not if you can feed your car. And besides Clintoon gave all the National parks to the UN. We already don't own them. But be happy, the NWO goon in the 5 story house built on half dome may need a new pool sweeper. You might land a Job. Then it will be a new pair of sandals for the whole family!

ANWR was a line drawn in the sand and democrats were afraid to cross it for fear that the money supply from radical enviornmentalist would be cut off if they voted in favor of exploring for oil in Alaska. This is yet another example of politicians voting AGAINST the national interest and FOR special interest.

another solution is decreased usage

Absolutely! but we are years away from making alternative power plants for autos economically efficient and safe. It's comming though, and is a major part of the solution.

No more nukes!!

Hmmmmmm.... no to oil & gas... no to nukes....

I guess that leaves us with digging up more coal and tar sands, etc. That's fine with me.

We could build some more hydroelectric dams too, however most of the good spots have already been taken....

Solar & wind??? They'll remain useful as curiosities in marginal niches... But the masses will revolt and tar & feather the green-weenies before they become economical nationwide.

It's nigh close to start talking reality, bub.

However, there is also significant political resistance to drilling in the gulf.

Some of it from our own party.

Naturally, this bothers me.

I'm not too worried. Sooner rather than later the demagogues in the Mideast will turn the desert into glass, and I'm sure we're already developing the technology to drill in glowing landscapes.

All that significant resistance is comming from a few shrill and loud mouths. The gulf off the coast of Floriduh is where they are the most shrill.

It is time to put out some good data to counter their BS!

PSS:

Why do you hate McDonalds?

They are building stores in response to consumer demand.

Their stores (on the whole, you do get a few bad apples when you franchise) are clean and safe.. so is their food.

They are a fantastic example of capitalism and (believe it or not) feed more people on a daily basis than the United States Government.

I would think McDonalds and their buisness model would make Conservatives happy and optimistic.

I am happy for them, why is there so much hate associated with their brand? I will never understand this.

More Nukes, Less Kooks
Envirowackos deserve summary execution - right along with the Democratic Socialists of America.

I'm glad your keen on the environment.

The reason I'm not so into McDonald's are varied: the food is the definition of bad nutrition, the meat industry is a chief culprit in the destruction of rainforests and animal cruelty.

Perhaps that sounds like some hippie-dippy sentiment, but the reality of the slaughterhouses would make even the most hardened exploiters lose their lunch. Due to the critical mass of cows moved through the slaughter lines, many mistakes occur. The anaesthetic shots designed to knock out the cows sometimes miss, or stab them in the eyes. The skin is often pulled off cattle while they are still conscious. The turnover rate for employees working slaughterhouses is around 300%.

I agree.... although I'm not educated enough on the enviromental impacts of the drilling, I do believe that from what I've heard the impact would be minimal... in any case Jeb shouldn't be whining about drilling off the coast of Florida either. It's all political and has nothing to do about the "good" of the country.
