CARRIER FREEZES OUT BOY SCOUTS - Carrier defunds support of Boys Scouts for being "morally straight" April 10, 2002

The Carrier Corporation air conditioner company has decided to stop supporting the Boy Scouts of America because of the youth organization's policy of protecting boys from homosexual leaders.

According to a Carrier spokesman, the company declined to buy or sell tickets this year for the annual Boypower Dinner of the Hiawatha Seaway Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Carrier's decision to punish the Scouts this year will affect young boys in five upstate New York counties served by the Hiawatha Council: Onondaga, Oswego, Lewis, Jefferson and St. Lawrence.

"This is a consumer-driven company saying they prefer to support sex between men rather than American boys who promise to stay 'morally straight,'" said Don Wildmon, president of American Family Association. "I can only assume Carrier isn't concerned with the idea of homosexuals sharing tents with young boys."

According to the Associated Press, Carrier was responsible for combined donations and corporate dinner ticket sales of $42,025 to the Hiawatha Boy Scouts last year.

ACTION NEEDED - Let Carrier know what you think about their abandoning the Boy Scouts of America, and instead, pandering to the whims of homosexual activists. Be sure to tell them that their corporate decision has major implications on your doing business with local Carrier dealers.

WHILE THE GIRL SCOUTS FREEZE OUT GOD AND WARM UP TO HOMOSEXUALS Girl Scouting Alternative Ready for Expansion By Martha W. Kleder Culture and Family Institute (an affiliate of Concerned Women for America)

"I promise to love God, Cherish my family, Honor my Country, and Serve my community." - American Heritage Girls oath After seven years in development, American Heritage Girls (AHG), a faith-based alternative to the Girl Scouts, is ready for rapid growth. "Since our founding in 1995, we have been fine-tuning our programs and procedures," AHG Executive Director Patti Garibay told C&F Report. "Now we are actively looking to expand nationally."

Even in its initial years, AHG has been no stranger to growth. Founded in 1995 with 100 Cincinnati, Ohio, girls, AHG has now expanded to 12,000 girls in 55 troops, literally worldwide. Growth beyond the tri-state area in Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky has only occurred during the past two years, when AHG opened itself to nationwide expansion.

"We now have troops as far away as Iceland and an Air Force Base in Germany," Garibay said. "We have a troop in Santa Rosa, California, and we have just finalized a charter for one in Abilene, Kansas."

Each of those troops is large, accommodating girls ages 5 to 18. "We are family friendly," said Garibay. "All of the girls in one family can participate in the same troop, but at their own skill level." That multi-age focus not only puts less stress on family schedules, but it also provides mentoring opportunities and chances for the older girls to gain leadership skills.

American Heritage Girls is friendlier to more than just families; it is friendly to the expression of Christian values. "We pray at our meetings," Garibay said.

The organization was formed as an alternative to the Girl Scouts USA, after a 1993 revision of the Scout promise to make the word "God" optional. Subsequent changes by GSUSA eliminated the role of faith in their program - in the guise of "non-discrimination" - and mandated leader training that views homosexuality as normal. Unlike the Boy Scouts, the Girl Scouts welcome openly homosexual leaders.

"The foundation of faith is a vital part of any character development program. Without a foundation of faith, there is no moral compass by which people can check their motives and actions," Garibay said. "When there is no foundation, as we find today in the GSUSA, kids can't withstand what they have to deal with on a day to day basis."

Carolyn Moore, AHG's National Growth Coordinator, says the faith-based focus on character development and service to others is not in competition with church Bible programs such as AWANA or Royal Rangers, but builds upon them.

"AHG's programming is a well-rounded program that allows girls to share their faith, walk their faith, and build on their faith," Moore told C&F Report. "Our goal is to build women of integrity through service to God, family, community and country."

While closely tied to faith, AHG is not bound by any particular doctrinal statement.

"People say, 'Why are you God-centered instead of Christ-centered?' We feel it encompasses more people of faith and gives us the opportunity to reach out to people who are searching," Moore said. She added that many churches use AHG as an outreach to bring families into the fold.

Along with outdoor activities, badges for crafts and life skills, and socialization, AHG has a strong emphasis on community service. Projects include collecting hygiene items for homeless shelters, raking leaves for the elderly and baking cookies for prisoners.

Patriotism is also stressed, with Fourth of July and Veteran's Day activities. "Many of our families have sons involved in the Boy Scouts, and have found us to be a comparable program for their daughters," said Garibay.

"We have been able to learn a lot from the established Scouting programs," she added. "And while our program contains the same values and goals of the Boy Scouts, we are unique. You can't put a boy's program on a girl's body." So AHG combines lessons on bicycle maintenance or animal care with tea parties and lots of time to talk.

American Heritage Girls has made a host of information available on their Web site, including the organization's creed and programs, as well as their uniform and handbook catalog. Those interested in starting or chartering an AHG club in their area can find application materials online.

I was outlining the LIBERAL position on these two issues: Celibacy causes homosexual priests to molest teenage boys; but homosexual Scoutmasters pose no danger at all to teenage boys.

Whatever happened to Sen Helm's amendment to the education bill to cut off funds if schools discriminated against the BSA?

It passed (thank God) but there's much more to do. The evil ones are busy little beavers. For victory & freedom!!!

When I was in the Scouts, anyone exhibiting "gay" behavior would have had a miserable time on a camping trip.
