Sportscasters Marv Albert and Mike Fratello were injured early Thursday when their limousine hit a stalled truck, police said. Both Fratello, 55, and Albert, 60, sustained facial lacerations, and Albert sustained a concussion, state police spokesman Julian Castellanos said.
The southbound limousine hit a disabled Dunkin Donuts truck on Interstate 295 in Hamilton Township, about five miles east of Trenton. The accident happened shortly before 3 a.m.
The men were being held for observation at Helene Fuld Medical Center in Trenton. The limousine's driver, Michael Breges, sustained a broken pelvic bone and was also taken to that hospital, Castellanos said.
A nursing supervisor who did not give his name said Albert and Fratello were in stable condition. Calls placed to the hospital seeking further detail were not immediately returned.
Neither of the two men in the delivery truck was injured, Castellanos said.
Fratello, who coached the NBA's Atlanta Hawks and Cleveland Cavaliers, was hired by NBC in October. He was coach of the year in 1986 with the Hawks.
Albert was rehired by NBC in 1999, less than two years after he was fired over a sex scandal. He had been fired after pleading guilty to biting a woman during an encounter in a Virginia hotel room. He received no jail time, and the assault conviction was erased from his record after he stayed out of trouble for a year.
The entire South Jersey state troopers squad and the Trenton police all arrived on the scene to help relieve the truck of its too heavy load.
The limousine's driver was cited for failing to stop or slow down for a disabled donut truck, and interfering with the incarceration of a jelly donut.
