Conservatism and libertarianism are not synonymous. In many respects they're at opposite ends of the spectrum.

heh yes well that's a matter for debate. However rather than conservatives trying to bring an unwilling republican party back to being conservative why not bring the Libertairian party to become more conservative. The argument in favor of this is both republican and democrat parties are too firmly entrenched and politics for either revolves around advancing the party rather than the good of the voters.
