I guess you still didn't take the hint that you should have read what else he said afterwards. He said that he didn't like them and that that they shouldn't be banned. In other words to make it so simple minds can understand, your way, everyone should love the AK's which they won't. Heston's stance is that you don't have to even like AK's in order to defend them.
Translation again for simple minds: I don't like what you say, but I will defend your right to say it.
IIRC, he made the "correction" OFF-air, while he made the actual comment ON-air during the interview. The "correction" came in a letter; the comment was made live and is in the transcript that was posted here. So take your simple, NRA-loving comments and put them where the sun don't shine.
