Chris Matthews was interviewed on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Tuesday evening's show. He indicated that the reason the Arabs are so upset is that the US only supports Israel in the mideast and no other Arab countries. Certainly that's the perception. I guess he hasn't heard about all the cash we give Egypt and so many others like Jordan and even the Palestinian Authority. I found the numbers on the web and it looks like Israel got $2.8B last year and Egypt got $2.2B. Apparently the total US payout is about $13.6B.

Did anyone see this interview on Leno? Matthews is clueless as usual!

There are apparently extra funds that Israel gets through the DOD. Those numbers are from the State Department I'm guessing. I saw other articles that indicate that Israel has received over $90B since 1949 and Egypt has received over $50B since it signed the peace treaty in 1979.

Mathews is a certified idiot. Didn't the U.S. "forgive" $6 Billion to Egypt several years back?

Didn't the U.S. "forgive" $6 Billion to Egypt several years back? Yes, but you weren't supposed to notice that or any other debt forgiveness the US has ever done. It's not PC. We are supposed to support debt relief for all deadbeat contries without question so that they can get new loans and default on those loans too.

You would think that people who do what he does for a living would be better read than he is. I was shocked at how uninformed his comments were. I've never seen "Hardball," but I remember him from that talking head show I used to watch- "McLaughlin Group." These days I don't watch TV except for Letterman, Leno, and Drew Carey's "Who's line is it anyway."
