If our spy satellites can read a license plate or the text on a newspaper they surely can focus in and get photos that will end the controversy once and for all. The text on a newspaper? I'm no physicist, but from what I remember in my college days I'm not sure that would even be possible. I don't think the light would remain sufficiently coherent for that kind of resolution.
I'm open to learning more about it, though.

I may have mistyped. But I do clearly remember seeing things on tv about spy satellites being able to read newspaper headlines. Which are clearly much larger than the story type.
