Who is in charge in Philly?
The Philadelphia Inquirer ^ | 4/16/02 | none

The NAACP has criticised Philly Mayor Street for not naming Sylvester Johnson, an African American, as permanent police commissioner. At an NAACP event, Mayor Street assured the audience that "Don't you let nobody fool you, we are in charge of the City of Brotherly Love. We are in charge!"

Hmmm. Sounds like something you might hear from Zimbabwe. That's O.K. Mr. Street; you keep alienating the white folks.

Too many of Philly's dumbass whites been voting democrat for years . Then when they flee the city for the burbs they continue to vote for democrats
When someone can figure out this insanity please let me know
I do have to admit though it takes a supreme effort to vote for the party hack RINO types the GOP puts on the ballot here in MONTCO

Who is in charge of Philly?

The same people who have been in charge for the last 40 years. Democrats, thugs, and unions.

The only real question is, is there a difference.

Really, the only difference between Street and Mugabe or Mbeki is that he’s significantly less intelligent than either.

The entire administration is so embarrassingly unprofessional it seems that every time a story breaks about them, they’ve done something idiotic. Be it:

· The report on schools that we’re STILL waiting for (the dog ate it).

· The Hep. C infected Firefighter who slept outside his office door for 17 days hoping to speak with her mayor about treatment while Big John stepped over her on his way in and out of the office.

· The firing of our succesful Airport Manager to be replaced by one of Streets flunkies.

· The appointment of his wife to his staff.

· The charade of his stadium tour which added an extra year to the process, only to decide to put the stadii exactly where they had been originally proposed.

· The suggestion of placing the new Phillies Stadium in Chinatown despite the fact that it would displace the city’s largest power grid, simply to assure that it would be placed on land owned by Street and his top campaign contributors.

· The $557,000 renovations of his office at taxpayer expense.

· Stephanie Franklin Suber, the Gestapo chief of staff who so alienated the rest of the city government that she resigned after 5 months.

Sad fact is, whomever the Republican candidate will be in the 2003 elections will serve to only fracture the vote for a responsible, competent candidate (by democrat standards, which isn’t much, but a step up from Big John). North and West Philadelphia will once again vote in a virtually 100% pro Street block and supplemented with the Center City liberals will get him another 4 years.

The only mitigating factor in this debacle is the fact that Street is so RAGINGLY incompetent, that he’s not actually able to advance any reforms that will make things worse. Think of it as auto-pilot for 8 years. Further, I really don’t see anyone worse, at least at this point who would be poised to take over for him in 2007. Well, there’s always Jerry Mondesire…

Mayor Street is all hat and no cattle. He inherited a failing school system from Fast Eddie Rendell. He has done nothing for Philadelphia at all. He is another in a long line of unscrupulous Democrats spoiled by voters that elect anything that is registered Democrat and breathes. The councilman Ortiz found to be without a drivers license and driving a taxpayer paid for car all over creation was laughed off. 17 years without a license and lots of unpaid parking tickets? Democrats are driving out business and home owners. There is nothing the GOP can do with this Democrat run city but weep. The state taxpayers are picking up the tab for Democrats ignoring the Philly school system. It will get worse.

Oh, I long ago decided to realize that Philadelphia is, what Philadelphia is. Hoping that North Philadelphia and Kensington will ever assume responsibility for their horrid state of affairs is folly, and therefore, hoping the GOP can ever even begin to make inroads is hopeless.

The sad truth of the matter is that Pennsylvanians in Indiana/Potter/Eire counties have their tax dollars siphoned off to try and prop up the Philadelphia schools. Well, no amount of money or reform is ever going to teach a child who’s parents have a room temperature IQ, a criminal record, no work history, and total reliance on the government for all sustenance. Kids spend a lot more time in this God forsaken environment that embraces victimhood and the welfare mentality. This will assure the cycle continues.

On a side note, often overlooked in the Philadelphia School debacle is the relative success of the Magnet Schools which separates the top students from the general cesspool of the school census and probably provides an education on par with the suburban districts. However, this represents only a very small part of the picture. For the rest, it’s a tempest of disappearing dollars and wasted effort.
