Sen. Corzine in Bid to Rescue 9/11 'Tribute in Light;' Hillary MIA

New Jersey Sen. John Corzine has offered to personally foot the bill to keep the moving Ground Zero tribute, "The Towers of Light" illuminated past this weekend, when funding for the haunting spotlight display was set to run out.

The multimillionaire Democrat made the offer on WABC Radio Sunday morning, during this exchange with talk host and regular NewsMax.com contributor Steve Malzberg:

MALZBERG: The lights at the site of the World Trade Center, which, I would assume you have seen, the towering beams - they're out. Last night was the last night.... I'm told it cost $10,000 a month to run those lights and if there was another $100,000 they could run it for another ten months and make it a year instead of the month it was up for.

Would you be in favor of soliciting private contributions? I know Mayor Bloomberg has given, unbeknownst to the media, many, many, many millions in contributions to New York City charities that needed help.

Would you be - I know as a - not to put you on the spot - but as a man who is kind of well-to-do, would you be interested in making a contribution to help?

CORZINE: At a hundred thousand dollars, if that's accurate, I think those lights can stay.

MALZBERG: Would you help in that effort.

CORZINE: Of course. (End of excerpt)

Every night since March 11, the six month anniversary of the attacks, the two ghostlike beams have risen to fill the gaping whole in Manhattan's nighttime skyline.

Visitors to Ground Zero Saturday night were reportedly in tears at the thought that the skies overhead would once again grow dark.

But Corzine's pledge to rescue the "Towers of Light" display could change all that, turning the rookie politician into a New York hero and catapulting him into the national spotlight.

New York's own multimillionaire senator, Hillary Clinton - who regularly boasts about how much she's done to help the city recover from the 9/11 attacks - has remained mum on saving the 9/11 tribute, and certainly hasn't offered to donate any of her own personal fortune to the cause.

Between book deals and speaking fees, Bill and Hillary Clinton have earned a whopping $35 million since she took office in Jan. 2001, according to Newsweek magazine.

I think this would be a great oppurtunity to either drag Hillary fighting and screaming into paying for the lights, or make her look like trash (which isnt hard to do).

You might think $35,000,000 would leave Bill and Hillary a little spare change, especially since somebody else usually picks up the tab for them

Would Rudy find 100K for this in a New York minute?

Senator Liposuction is hoarding her loot to be your fuehrer in '04.

Even though her and Webb Hubbell's daughter found fault with the "Bush tax cut"--they themselves are soulless.

We are shocked.

Jon has a buck or two - even though his paper loss on stock holdings is enough to finance a small town for 5 years !

He is a Democrat, and a long-time Clintonista ,but hasn't done anything really deplorable yet, as he somewhat tends to go his own way. Given enough time, he may become a "DINO".

The fact he is an ex-Marine, who enlisted, and served his time without trying to weasel out, says something positive about him.

It's about the only thing. Sen Codeine has not been as obnoxious as Hilliary, but he is just as liberal, and just as dangerous on the issues as Hilliary. Despite his recent losses, he still has an endless supply of funds, and that makes him even more dangerous, as he can continue to buy elections ad nauseam, and inflict his hypocritical liberal views on us all.

Hillarys money is all tied up in the Swiss bank accounts....so SHHh....noone must know about it.

Why does it cost $10,000 for lights to stay on for a MONTH? I know utilities are high in NY..but $10,000 for spotlights??

What personal fortune have the Clintons ever had? They grew their "fortune" by stealing from the American people - without their political life, they would have been one step above "trailer trash" (no offense to those living in trailers, by the way!)
