NASCAR's Gordon counter-sues for divorce

By Kathryn Quigley, The Palm Beach Post

WEST PALM BEACH - The divorce case of NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon and his wife, Brooke, hit a sharp curve this week when he counter-sued for divorce, claiming he should be exempt from splitting the couple's estate because he risked his life to acquire it.

Gordon, a four-time Winston Cup champion, says he deserves a bigger share of the couple's businesses, homes, cars and boats.

"Due to the Husband's extraordinary contributions to the acquisition of the funds as a result of his hazardous, life-threatening occupation, the Husband claims that he should be entitled to greater than 50 percent interest in the net marital estate," according to documents filed Wednesday in Palm Beach County Circuit Court.

Jeff Gordon is the all-time money winner in the Winston Cup series with career earnings of more than $45 million, plus endorsements.

"He's not a banker that goes to work from 9 to 5," said his divorce attorney Donald J. Sasser said. "His life is in his hands."

Jeff Fisher, the divorce attorney for Brooke Gordon, said it is "arrogant and selfish" for Jeff Gordon to claim he should get more money because his job is dangerous.

"The element of risk is irrelevant," Fisher said. "It's his choice of career."

Fisher said his client is simply asking for what she is entitled to under Florida law - a 50-50 division - especially since she was "extremely active in all his professional activities."...

To quote from a similar article found Here

Brooke Sealey Gordon, a former Miss Winston who married Jeff Gordon in 1994, sued for divorce on March 15, accusing her husband of "marital misconduct." In the newly filed documents, Jeff Gordon denies any marital misconduct but does agree that the marriage is "irretrievably broken."

Documents filed in the past 10 days do not shed any more light on why the attractive, seemingly-happy couple are breaking up. Fisher refused to elaborate on what led her to file for divorce last month.

"We look forward to proving our allegations in court, but we will not comment further on the nature of the marital misconduct," Fisher said.

Other details in the article listed in post 2
Fisher said Brooke Gordon is asking to live in the house only while the divorce is pending. Jeff Gordon is traveling on the Winston Cup circuit in a luxurious motor home, Fisher said.

Fisher said the couple have been speaking weekly by telephone and that Jeff Gordon came by the Highland Beach mansion a few times to pick up personal items.

Sasser agreed that the split seems to be cordial. "I think both parties are still fond of each other," he said.

Egads! This will keep that NASCAR crowd busy for the next 6 months. 80 percent of them can't stand Jeff Gordon.

I know, but since the original divorce petition got so much attention and Jeff was accused of all sorts of misconduct, I thought it was worthwhile to show that he is at least denying misconduct.

On the other hand I bet most NASCAR fans despise gold-digging B*tc*s trying to get more than their fair share. What a quandry.

Jeff was at our plant last week before the race and was a class act when some of our managers tried to stop some kids from getting autographs, he bypassed the managers and saw to it that every kid got one plus a photo with him.

Don't know the real story but I can tell you this...I was in the "pits" at a race last year and saw Brooke there...she looked absolutely bored out of her mind, was not watching the race at all (reading a book), even tho' her husband was in the top 5 at the time, and stayed in the 24 pit for about half an hour before taking off for the trailer.

Gordon has about a zero chance of winning this in Florida. In fact, this ploy may work against him.

Wait'll the Palm Beach County board gets involved. They'll look at his voting record, see that he voted for President Bush and after that will be counting the judgement against him over, and over, and over .....

You know how well they count in Palm Beach FloriDUH!!

I just hope the judge doesn't have to mark his verdict on a punch card. The debate over which chad he intended to punch will have NASCAR fans arguing for years.

Malicious gossip and something Gordon hasn't been able to shake since they accused him of it in the early 90s when he was a single Nascar driver from CA and not seen with women. Never mind that he was dating Brooke behind the scenes at the time.

Glad to see in America someone is still innocent until proven guilty.
