Gulf Arabs' cash, moral support soar for Palestinians
Daily Star ^ | April 11 2002 | AFP

Financial and political support for the Palestinians has soared to unprecedented levels in the Gulf monarchies as tens of millions of dollars donated for urgent relief match strong words and rare street demonstrations.

Saudi Arabia, after watching its peace initiative go up in the flames of an Israeli assault on Palestinian strongholds and a wave of suicide bombings, has led the campaign to push the United States to rein in the Jewish state.

Despite a ban on demonstrations, the kingdom's 20-million population will also undoubtedly head the donation league after a telethon fundraiser on Thursday.

King Fahd, Crown Prince Abdullah and Defence Minister Prince Sultan have together already donated 4.8 million dollars to launch the event.

Dubai, with a population of barely one million, showed the way Wednesday raising more than 36 million dollars in aid for the Palestinians, including huge sums donated by sheikhs, kilos of gold and even one child's pocket money.

Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum urged the United Nations to approve the use of force to halt Israel's "butchery" of Palestinians as it has done to save other threatened populations.

And he launched Dubai's "We are all Palestine" campaign, gifting 20 million dirhams (5.4 million dollars).

That was topped by ruler Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid al-Maktoum who shelled out 30 million dirhams (8.2 million dollars) during a telethon overnight Tuesday-Wednesday. Deputy ruler Sheikh Hamdan chipped in 20 million dirhams.

Dubai's affluent trading families stumped up millions more while many women phoned in to pledge their gold, one giving all her wedding jewellery and another her Rolls Royce. Both asked to remain anonymous.

How does one morally support terrorist bombing in restaurants, shopping centers and busses?

Interesting moral code. Lets see ...

Thou shalt randomly set off bombs that occassionally kill innocent children and babies.

Interesting.

Sure, the other Arab states are more than happy to toss money at the Palestinians as long as the latter continue to sacrifice their lives trying to kill off the Israelis.

But, where are the Arab states when the Palestinians are futilely trying to build and rebuild their industrial and economic infrastructure? And, where will they be when the current deadly tragedy finally ends, saner Palestinian minds prevail, and the Paletinians need some serious investment to jump start their economy and become a genuinely peaceful, productive nation?

Hint: Don't look behind doors 1, 2, 3 -- or the doors to any other Arab nation.

The fact is, the Palestinian people are as different from most of their Arab neighbors as night is from day. Once freed from the yoke of those among them who know only terror, extortion, and turmoil, they will prove themselves to be an industrious, affable, deocratic, and peaceful people. Economically. they will become to the Arab world what tiny Germany is to Europe.<p.And that is precisely why the other Arab nations want only to keep them at war.

Do you personally know more and have you worked with hundreds of Palestinians and Israelis? Have you ever been to Palestine? Did you serve in Israel during the Gulf War and observe firsthand the close interaction between Palestinian and Israeli business executives?

If you had to answer "No" to one or more of those questions, than perhaps you might want to follow The Bard's advice on when it is more providential to listne than to talk.

Obviously the Arabs did not take seriously Bush's statement that if you support terrorists, you are one. America once had the respect of the world, but after Clinton...

You all realize that Palestine normal GNP is around $65 million a month? Add up all the cash, $50 million each a month from both the Eeee Uuuu and Saudi Arabia, add on these other Arabic Nations support for belly bombers and Arafat has darn near doubled the entire cash flow of all of Palestine, and every bit of it directly into his pocket. How's that for an incentive to stop terrorism?!

Terrorism not only pays, it gushes cash!

Haven't you heard? It isn't *after* clinton yet. He still thinks he IS somebody and the Dragonlady breathes pure sulpher in the Senate trying to become somebody. There's even a brand new Arkancide.

You did not include the counterfeiting which Arafat conducted.

In Ramallah, IDF control of Arafat's compound has revealed extensive counterfeiting.

"Terrorists and those who support terror."

"There is no place to hide."

"Dead or alive."

"Read my lips."
