It turns out that Bill Clinton's "mega-hyped handshake with prodigal aide George Stephanopoulos" at a Manhattan restaurant was "as choreographed as a Bob Fosse routine" and "completely eighth-grade," the New York Observer reported Monday.
The newspaper said "the fix was in." And apparently New York City's elites have waaaay too much time on their hands. "Not only did Mr. Stephanopoulos know Mr. Clinton was going to be there, but some media insiders got a heads-up that The Big Handshake was about to happen and promptly booked tables so they could be there to witness it."
Michaels restaurant knew that New York Magazine columnist Michael Wolff was having lunch there March 27 with Steph, and gave Wolff a heads-up about Clinton's plans for lunch there that day.
Wolff blabbed to Steph (and to others) and recalled him saying, "Youre kidding, right? Oh my God, Ive got to think about this.
"The whole tenor of the thing was out of junior high, Wolff told the Observer. "You know, Is he going to be there? Is he not? What do I say if he comes?
"Once we got there, George asked, Well, do I speak to him first? And I said, Yes. It was completely eighth-grade.
According to the Observer: "Reports were the exchange was amicable, though Mr. Clinton mildly snubbed his former employee by only rising slightly out of his chair during the brief chat."
I hope you're fairly young; that could take awhile.
They probably walked out on it like they did during that one campaign stop in the 90's.
Well, I'm glad that we have adults running the show now. I might not always agree with them, but I know that they're mature adults. That helps me sleep at night.Amen.
