Once upon the 1960s, California's public schools were the envy of the world. If you want to know why they're so awful today, consider the political scam that the California Teachers Association is now playing on Democratic Governor Gray Davis.

Amen to that. Math is the same, at least at that age, History has not changed (although it has been changed), and grammar is the same as well. Sick freaks. :)

I'm sure the very same text books, rebound or reprinted that I used or my grandfather used would be more than adequate for todays K-12 students.

But this statement ignores the fact that those textbooks were centered around the teaching of "old dead white guys" and don't reflect the "diversity" found in the world today. Also, just learning "facts" doesn't help the students' self-esteem, which is vital to their success in life, donchaknow.

/sarcasm

I was talking to a friend of mine a while back (who is my mother's age) about the differences in education that we received. She learned much more about black inventors, leaders, and innovators in her schooling than I did, even though her schooling was before the civil rights movement, and mine was after it. Based on current thinking, this should have been the other way around. Seems like those "old dead white guys" knew something, after all

Hmmm I thought Tennessee was DEAD LAST on these scores...at least that's what we've been told, and is why we NEED MORE TAXES to fix.
