Clash with Anti-American Terrorist Supporters
A little chilly wind blowing through Govt Center, but fairly sunny and warm enough not to complain.
Its getting to be a usual occurrence that I get confronted on the subway on the way to or from a Freep. This time a guy got on at Ruggles (not a very nice part of town) wearing numerous layers of clothes and one of those black and white scarves wrapped around his head so that only his dark sunglasses showed through. Of course, he sits opposite me and, due to my blank-face stare through his head, he says Whatre you lookin at. My only reply was, I was just wondering if you have explosives strapped on under all them clothes. He pulls out his video-cam to which I said Get a good look, cause you will always see me at your gatherings.
Grabbed a coffee and met Little Bill at the customary, early 11:30. Bo-gunner and wife, and Peace-corps-guy showed up soon thereafter, at which time I gave a flag to the Bos, so that they could have their show-down with the weekly peace-weenies at Park St. while we went off to bigger things.
Setting up at Govt Center, we gave a pretty large buffer zone (about 100 ft.), so the BPD wouldnt get too edgy protecting those they despise. The BPD loves us for making their job less hazardous at times like this. The TERRORISTS had this God-awful, Aladdin-soundtrack, horrid noise broadcasting throughout the square. Talk about having nightmares tonight. Bob joined in as well as some of the familiar veterans from the Vets Shelter across the streetAfter their lunch-time, many more joined with us.
Also present were numerous newscasterschannels 4, 7, 56, NECNall getting shots of the good-side, especially the veterans. The usual support from the public was ever-present, taking pictures of us; taking pictures with us, honking horns, thumbs up....they all got a kick out of Little Bills WARNING sign. They had the usual chants and the blocking movement by the Nerds Against War making sure we werent visible to the crowd. Every once in a while, someone would walk by and call us something like fascist. It was pointed out that a word on my sign was misspelledIm not perfect first thing in the morning.
Little Bill and I were planning on breaking up when the TERRORISTS went on with the march to Park Sq., but the veterans took our flags up the sidewalk, where the police wanted us, for more action. We went aside the TERRORISTS, moving quickly so that we could meet them at every street-corner, all the while getting public support. Our patriotic duty ended at the theater district, and we packed up for the time-beingtil next time.
No assaults on the ride home.
