Would it not be more honest to have meetings for the parents of students who scored in various range bands, regardless of race?

This would allow the school to address such concepts as actually teaching the kids, instead of race.

Re #2

It will never occur to them. Their mindset is just as race-driven as Ku Klux Klan. Besides, score band concept will be viewed as "harmful" to self-esteem.

The best way to pass a test is to know the material. The second best way is to have a strategy and learn "How to take a test" which means how to best take your best guess. Now guess which way they are talking about in this article.

If they did that, they wouldn't be able to blame low scores on a variety of outside factors in a culturally sensative fashion.
Translation: They couldn't blame racism for low scores for minorities if the low scoring session wasn't all minorities.

This is insanity!

If the principal doesn't want to hurt their feelings, why is he making them separate and unequal?

Asians make up about 11 percent and blacks represent seven percent of the state's population.

Say what? How many of that "11% Asian immigrants" are recent immigrants from China who are young males under 30? Anybody know? Somebody needs to be looking into this!

So, it is ok to say "blacks to the left, whites to the right", but not "kids who passed" and "kids who need a little help?"

Is their special-ed program race-based, too?

He added that a couple years ago, a middle school in Oakland segregated parents based on race so that they could discuss after school programs openly.

I wonder what that was about.

White and Asian students scored similarly well in the ranking, outscoring Hispanic and black students by more than 75 points.
Here is one of the few FACTS in this story. It is an important observation, because one racial minority succeeds, while two others falter. The reason for this is never addressed.

Oh, the irony. The principal, in trying to be racially sensitive, seems to have interpreted this data to mean that blacks and hispanics are inherently less intelligent.

"I think stereotypes could be reinforced in a big group environment," Moore said.
So he avoids stereotyping by arranging a special meeting for the 'stupid blacks and hispanics' who would be embarrassed in front of the smart white and asian kids, and the liberals applaud his sensitivity ... like this:
"The meetings show the school is sensitive to the differences (among test scores)," said Deborah Thomas-Smith, a black parent with an eight-grade son at Smedberg. "It should be the norm that those unique individuals with unique problems get together."
And here is the root of the problem. It's not that intelligence is rooted in your race, but that ambition is rooted in your upbringing. You're handicapped from the outset when you have a parent who feels that her blackness is a "unique problem".

Why? Are they going to smoke pot and rape our women? (Oh, wait... make that "low-rider their Hondas and work in Silicon Valley.") Get a clue of why it is a bad idea for the government not to be race-blind.

BTW,maybe you would like to give us all a lecture about how "race-blind" the Chinese are?

I can't say for certain, but I'm pretty sure most of that population is not recent immigrants (they presumably wouldn't be doing well on SAT scores if so). California has had Asian immigrants since the gold rush (Chinese immigrants - build railroads - Chinatown, etc.)

Chinese, especially the ones right off the boat, are racist as all hell. Clear enough for you? And it is STILL a bad idea for the government to be race-conscious in policy or the implementation of policy.

Makes it easier to deny the reality that the emperor is wearing no clothes?
Guess who the ultimate losers are?

Unless they pass a law saying that dummies are smarter and the top academic achievers have to go on welfare.

Wait...

I agree, but I'm pretty sure the 11% figure was as part of the total population, not the percentage of Asian students. I'm also aware of all the Asian immigrants that have settled in Ca over the years. I'm just shocked the number is so high, and suspect a lot of that number are recent immigrants.

Generally oriental immigrants have a strong dislike for minorities. Not to mention resentment. Think how black racists see whites, orientals see blacks. The fact that the achieve high in academics and are denied because of Affirmative Action (it only applies to certain minorities, not all of them)makes them very angry.
