manager of a McDonald's chased a rat round the shop then beat it to death in front of children.
The rat ran round the burger bar after being brought in by a gang of young pranksters.
Customers jumped on chairs and screamed as staff chased the rat around the restaurant in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire.
The rat was finally cornered and battered to death with a broom by a manager.
A grandmother who was in McDonalds with her three-year-old granddaughter said: "There were screaming kids running everywhere.
"I couldn't believe my eyes when the manager took a broom and beat the rat to death in front of the children.
"The last thing I wanted my granddaughter to see was an animal being clubbed to death."
A manager at the Borehamwood outlet confirmed the 'rat incident' to Ananova but refused to comment any further.
A spokesman told The Mirror: "The manager acted quickly and effectively. The rat was brought in deliberately and set loose by people trying to damage the reputation of McDonald's.
"Both the police and the local environmental health office have been made aware of the incident."

PUUULEEEZZZZ, it's a rat!! Kids should want to stomp on the things themselves.
To: Sungirl
Surely you don't buy this ccrap about kids being harmed by seeing a rat get it's just rewards?

They're real animal-rights nuts over there. Otherwise normal Britons get absolutely freaky when subjects like foxhunting are broached.

I agree, it's a frigging rat people. Maybe they would rather be bit by a rabid rat, I'm sure the kid will appreciate that fact when they turn him into a pin cushion for rabies vaccinations.

Geez, over here the lawyers would be rabid, looking for the sequel to the $6M spilled coffee verdict. You could bet on it.

The manager reportedly became enraged when the rat quit without giving the customary two-week notice....

If this had been in an American McDonalds, how long before someone filed a suit claiming they are now suffering from a "post traumatic stress disorder"?

Basil: "Manuel, this is a rat."
