"I really, really, really, (really) prefer breaking news on the sidebar.."

Scroll up to "Topics" (upper right corner)...(click on it)

Scroll down and click on Breaking News. Once you open that window, in the left column you'll see a place to click to "subscribe".

Once you do this, "Breaking News" will appear on your sidebar.
