Israel's government is Democratically elected - and they are responding to the demands of their people for more security. I fully support their desire to secure their country from these terrorist attacks - and only ask that they keep a path for peace open.

His prepared statement sounded like mush and not just literally, but his answers to questions asked by reporters, especially the last answer, were much better.Makes it seem again, like the UN resolution was a sop to the wobblies in Europe.

I think it's time to arrest Chairman General Yasser Arafat and try him for hundreds, if not thousands, of counts of conspiracy to commit murder. LONG past that time.....

Well - the CNN reporter is now acting outraged that President Bush did not demand Israel withdraw from the Palestinian territories which have been invaded by Israeli tanks.
Reporter says the world community was looking for President Bush to insist that Isreal withdraw from these territories - but he absolutely and clearly did NOT say that.
He said that the chief reason for the problems were the terrorist attacks going on against Israel and that Israel has the right to protect its homeland and its people. THE PRESIDENT STOOD UP FOR ISRAEL'S RIGHT TO DEFEND ITSELF AGAINST TERRORISM!!!! as it does!
President Bush just asked Israel to keep a door open, a path open for peace and demanded that ARafat do more to stop the terror. But he spoke to ALL WORLD LEADERS AND ALL COUNTRIES who really want peace here - to join ih the effort to STOP TERORRISM - which must be done BEFORE peace can be achieved!

President Bush - thank you.

It's always good to see what the useful idiots think of a Presidential action or statement before passing judgment. If it sounds weak to us, but they hate it, that may tell us something.
Thanks for the update.

What I am not understanding is if Bush is supporting Israel, then why did the U.S. vote with the U.N. security council (14-0) according th MSNBC webpage,, calling for Israeli Pullout?

It's possible that the US voted for the resolution in order to say to the Arabs, "We've done all we can" but now Bush is giving in effect the US interpretation of the resolution, i.e., that it should only be understood to call for Israeli withdrawal after Israel's security has been secured. That still doesn't make me like the UN vote, though.

Bush came through - Big Time! I was pleasantly surprised and relieved after listening to his old-45-record-sounding remarks. I expected the worst after learning of the UN resolution. But Bush clearly pointed the finger for lack of peace on Arafat and the Pallie terrorists. He washed his hands of the Israeli action on Ramallah by saying they were democratic (a dig at Arab nations) , and are merely doing the will of their people and defending themselves against terror. Sure, he threw in a few "both sides" type of remarks, but this was another major step forward in siding with Israel and against Islamic terrorism.

Bush made a comment that, "Israel has the right to defend itself". Well, Mr. President that means also going into the West Bank.

I'll reserve my final judgement and see what Bush's actions are. I'm not a happy camper re: the UN resolution, that is a no brainer cave.
This is a speech. A speech where he is pretty hemmed in after the UN vote. It's pretty meaningless policy wise. But I'm seriously glad that we have a man of some integrity in there showing compassion for the victims of terrorism.
The Mideast is going to get worse before it gets better, eventually he will have to declare we stand against terrorism and support the victims of such, Israel.

I'm glad they have film. It's much better. He must not allow the media to have satellite hook-up at the ranch. The media must have to run the tape to a truck. LOL.

I feel much better after seeing the replay and watching Bush deliver his remarks. I got the impression, that what he really wanted to say, was- Israel, go house to house, camp to camp and search and destroy every terrorist cell-but, diplomacy prevents that.
To: Wild Irish Rogue
Yeah me too. But, eventually (unless we really believe the Palis and Arafat want peace) Israel will have to go all out against the Palis.
At some point we have to say enough is enough unless we expect Israel to stay in this constant state of civillian bombings in malls and pizzarias.
To: Wild Irish Rogue
I feel much better after seeing the replay and watching Bush deliver his remarks. I totally agree with you on that! He was a beacon of calm in a sea of chaos. I appologize for calling it weak. GOD Bless President Bush and I pray that HIS wisdom will guide our leaders.
To: mickeylee
In the spirit of not letting these terrorist totally absorb me,,,,,,,,,I'd just like to say
