It reminds of an episode of the old Superman TV show from the 50's. A scientist developed a way to turn lead into gold. Mobsters nabbed him and made him build a machine for them. However, the amount of the lead cost more than the resulting gold. Of course, Superman could fly without any apparent means of propulsion. What's up with that?
