President Bush signed the controversial Campaign Finance Reform bill today as Mitch McConnell immediately filed suit against it. Bush later headed to South Carolina where he spoke to Emergency First Responders in Greenville. He also stopped in Atlanta, Georgia at the Georgia Tech Institute of Technology where he watched drills demostrating response to terror attacks. Enjoy your daily dose of Dubya!

QUOTE OF THE DAY: However, the bill does have flaws. Certain provisions present serious constitutional concerns. In particular, H.R. 2356 goes farther than I originally proposed by preventing all individuals, not just unions and corporations, from making donations to political parties in connection with Federal elections.
I believe individual freedom to participate in elections should be expanded, not diminished; and when individual freedoms are restricted, questions arise under the First Amendment.
I also have reservations about the constitutionality of the broad ban on issue advertising, which restrains the speech of a wide variety of groups on issues of public import in the months closest to an election. I expect that the courts will resolve these legitimate legal questions as appropriate under the law.
As a policy matter, I would have preferred a bill that included a provision to protect union members and shareholders from involuntary political activities undertaken by their leadership.
Individuals have a right not to have their money spent in support of candidates or causes with which they disagree, and those rights should be better protected by law. I hope that in the future the Congress and I can work together to remedy this defect of the current financing structure.

I will caption that pic.
I want to guarantee every one of you, that while I cannot promise to protect your right to free speech, I can assure you that I will make every effort to keep you employed by breathing life into the dieing War on Drugs by defrauding the public into thinking that fighting the War on Drugs is a necessary part of fighting terrorists.

What no picture of the CFR signing, passing out of pens, Senators and Congressman with smiles. Oh well, I guess when you betray those who voted for you, you don't celebrate.

Why don't you go to a thread where your gripe will be appreciated?
To: shrinkermd
Go away. This is not the thread for those kinds of comments.

This thread is a place to view pictures that were taken to keep us up to date with what is going on in President Bush's life. It's not a place to rant about your favorite pet peeve. There are other threads set up for this purpose. Go find one!

Yeah I strongly object. A day in the life of President Bush isn't complete without mentioning the fact that he just signed a bill into law that shuts down free speech, political speech at that. Worse yet, he even admitted he had slight hesitation in doing so. That's real leadership for ya.

It sure didn't take them long, did it? They must have been refreshing all afternoon waiting for this thread.

Reply #10 should have been directed to you too. So I repeat myself:

Signing the CFR Bill was part of his life! Signing a new law that restricts free speech is hardly a pet peeve! Get real!

May President Bush seek and obey GOD, positioning himself to receive the blessing you pray for.

I prefer to think that perhaps President Bush just might have a reason for signing this legislation. He's no dummy.
To: shrinkermd
Excuse me - who would be at the signing - McCain! Do you actually think he's going to give McCain a platform. This CFR thing means McCain is no longer relevant. That suits me just fine. The court will take care of the missteps in the law's provisions and the President will have stilled McCain's voice - hooooooray!!
