How sad. There goes yet another part of my wonderful Fifties childhood. Used to watch him with my mother, father, sister, and brother. Great laughs. Always good clean fun (even though I can still hear my dad saying, "I sure do wish he wouldn't dress as woman quite so much."

My Grandmother turns 99 in June of this year. It's amazing how fast time flies. In some ways it's sad because the majority of her friends are gone and she doesn't relate to the immorality that is so common place. For the life of her she can't understand what homosexuality is or some of the crudness that is common on T.V.. She refuses to watch it. As much as we love her, we also know it's time for her to go home when God determines this.

I am old enough to remember that Berle was so big on early television that the country closed down on Tuesday night at eight when he came on. We all were home watching Berle.

A very funny man whose comedy sketches are far better than the crap currently being shown on the Comedy Channel and other venues.

I once saw him in person as the star of Neil Simon's "The Last Of The Red Hot Lovers" at a local theatre. He must have been in his early 60's. After the regular show he came back and did a 20 minute encore of one of his old vaudeville routines. It was the funniest 20 minutes of my life, I was laughing so hard I was hurting.

My grandma is the same way, she turned 96 in January. Bout the only thing she likes to watch on TV anymore is Wheel of Fortune and Lawrence Welk (yes, it is shown on some PBS stations).

Sorry to hear it, although I hope he's with the Lord now. My wife had lunch with him last year and indicated he was still sharp as a tack, though up in his years. (As I understood it, he had quite a long reputation with the women folk, not that my wife had that close a relationship...)

Yes, unlike George Burns, Berle genuinely appreciated good cigars and always smoked the good ones. La Finca is a nice premium cigar also. I'm sure Berle would have approved.

The saddest thing is you know they are inevitably going to die, but this country is losing its best. A bygone era when American entertainers were respectable and genuinely creative. There are no more Milton Berles or Jimmy Stewarts. They lived in the best of times and dare I say we're looking to be heading into the worst of times.
