These professional matchmakers have built businesses on pairing beautiful people from the power scene in cities all over the country, charging clients up to $15,000 to find Mr. or Mrs. Right.

Sadly, this is true at every income level.
I once used a dating service.
It was THE worst use of my money (not 15 grand, but substantial enough for my poor self) I have ever made. I achieved one actual meeting in something like 18 months, innumerable rejections. (Women aren't picky, puh-leez).
And here comes the fun part.
My wife joined a service, too.
The same one. We missed each other by a couple of months (she joined after I decided to call it a loss and never make THAT mistake again).
She had about as much success as I. To wit, none. So she gave up, too. (Although I will say this: at least she got a couple of dates. From her stories, they were nuts, but still, that's better than I did...)
We met at a singles dance, and got married 14 months later.
