Ditto on what Tonk said SB and more... you, Lady, continue to take care of us old boneheads with the USO Canteen FReeper Style...I know I am eternally grateful to you DEAR FRIEND for that.

The treatment described in this post is disgusting, those mudering bastards at Gitmo are getting better treatment than the hero's that have kept us free, SHAME.....

I say feed those at Gitmo rat poison and use the saved money to take better care of our hero's.

Wait a minute, rat poison can be expensive... an M16 shell only costs under a quarter....

"But across America MOST of the VA hospitals are horrible."

I've been in several in Texas, Snow Bunny, and I agree with you!
This is a disgrace...nay, this is a CRIME against our vets!

"I went into the veterans hospital recently with a friend. It smelled of piss."

Everyone I've been in smelled that way!
It bothers us for a short while; imagine having to lay there and smell that day after day, month after month.

...neither patient was believed harmed by them.

One of those "tastes like chicken" kinda lines.

There is a reason for this, it's the useless, overpaid, selfserving, lying, whining, what's in it for me morons that the people elected to serve as our representives in Washington.

Take a look at what they provide for themselves:

Medical care for themselves, that we all pay for, that the average person only can dream about.

A pension that in some cases allows them more in retirement than they earn (sic) while they were working(sic).

A raise in pay that takes affect, without these cowards having to vote for it so that they can say that they would not have voted for it if they had the time.

When are we going to wake up? Things that are good for them are unacceptable and to costly for the general public.

If they had to do an honest day work, like the rest of us poor slobs, they would be screaming and whining even more than they do now about things that are so self serving it makes you want to laugh, because if you don't you'll only cry.

How timely a story, since I am scheduled for surgery on the 2nd of April, in that very hospital

An excellent rant. Can you imagine if this very same story had occurred in a "Big Name" hospital? Surely the networks, cable news and newspapers would have covered it, but it's only a VA hospital and no one really cares. Only a small blurb from Reuters and a rant from the choir.

When the people we pay to govern start ranting things will change, but that seems to be a pipe dream.

Good post! We need term limits. In the mean time it should be mandatory that all members of Congress to get ALL of their medical treatment at VA Hospitals.

Our local VA 'Clinic' in Anchorage(the ONLY facility in Alaska) operates pretty much in 'Overwhelm' most of the time. A "Doctors Apptmt" is 3+months away ... and when you show up you find out you're being seen by some Physicians Asst. you've never heard of.

For the savy, we do have access (outside 9to5, and on wknds) to the Elmendorf AFB Hospital and their excellent staff and facilities. The VA Clinic however, is full of your typical slothful Affirmative Action/Federal Bureaucrat types, sprinkled with a few outstanding, dedicated and concerned exceptions.

If Bush can afford to give $10 Billion to Bono's favorite foreign-aid charity, Bush can afford to fulfill the promise given to all the GI's I knew back in '65 who were answering their country's call, of "full and complete healthcare benefits for life."

One patient died two days after the maggots were removed, though neither patient was believed harmed by them.

I guess THEIR definition and mine are different!
