Tom Monaghan single handedly RUINED the Detroit Tigers.

Tom Monaghan purchased the Tigers in 1983 and sold them to Mike Ilitch at the end of '92.
During that time they won the World Series in 1984 and the American League East championship in 1987.

Ilitch has yet to equal Monaghan's record, but that's not a knock on Mike Ilitch.
With the exception of a few glory years, the Tigers have ALWAYS been a fairly mediocre team.
Nobody RUINED them.
