A prediction:

Musarraf, in Pakistan, will be assassinated and we will eventually wind up fighting serious battles in Pakistan. It could go nuclear because it seems their atomic scientists and the ISI are in bed with the Al Qaeda/Taliban. In fact, Pakistan may come before Iraq. The purpose of the 'quiet period' right now is to let the missle manufacturers replenish the military stocks. (This conflict will get a lot more serious before it gets better)

I Don't agree. If Musharraf gets it the military will just put up another general to take over. The military isn't going to let anyone who is not one of "them" take control for the foreseeable future. They will fight the fundies outright if necessary (but only if necessary) to maintain their authority. Despite what you may hear the Isamists do NOT have sufficient popular support in Pakistan (at least outside of the Tribal Territories) to stand up to the military.

This is the second time I have heard this and I must say, it seem valid. Cruise missle stocks were almost completely run down during the previous administration. This pause gives time to build up cruise missles, UAV's, training, intelligence, diplomatic moves. Everyone says Iraq is next. That great military mind Chris Mathews claims 200,000 men would be needed to march against Bagdad (what a dope). There is no build up of ground forces around Iraq, like during the Gulf war, so, obviously there is no ground war being contemplated.
