From these sources your judgement tells you that the FBI and Tom Ridge are out to get us patriots -- I reach no such conclusion.
A little background and a little history for those people who don't remember the events that happened to the N.Y. Post back then.
First, a female employee receives a contaminated anthrax letter that infects her finger. Next, the N.Y. Post publishes a front back picture of this female employee giving the middle finger -- anthrax infection and all -- to the terrorists and giving some quote about how she and the Post blame the terrorists for the anthrax she received. Following that front page middle finger, the Post and the female reporter begin to receive threats because of that front page blaming of the terrorists for the Anthrax. It was at that point that I hear a statement from the female reporting saying that they really do not know who sent the Anthrax and that she was sorry for what appeared on the front page of the Post.
Almost immediately after that -- I think it was a few days -- the Post prints all of those anonymous sources saying how the FBI believes it is domestic right wingers. I believe the NY Post was preassured to print those anonymous sources accusing us patriots of such an act. Was it Clinton's FBI buddy Collingwood -- I don't know. Was it the official Ashcroft and FBI position -- I don't conclude that.
You are right about this -- it does take a personal filter to determine which stories are not lefty plants.
BTW, if you really want to see what the FBI thinks about this case, go to the FBI website. I know briefly they had that devious right wing profile up on the site -- was that the work of Collingwood -- but it is not up there now. I bet you it was removed pretty quickly. Nowhere today do I find any reference to right wingers on the FBI website
