(Salt Lake City-AP) -- Two pilots escaped injury this morning when a military training plane blew a tire upon landing at the Salt Lake International Airport and veered off the runway. According to airport spokeswoman Barbara Gann, the accident happened about 10:30 a-m. The plane was a T-38 Talon -- a two-seat training jet. The plane originated in Missouri and was passing through Salt Lake City. Gann said two of four runways were closed to tow the plane away out of the grassy field. Flight operations were NOT affected. A spokeswoman at Hill Air Force Base said the plane wasn't related to their operations.

Military jet skidded off runway on landing, everybody OK, kudos to the pilot.

Keyword says takeoff. The mishap occurred during landing. 'Doh!

I wouldn't be surprised if the Talon came down a little hard. The T-38 has a nasty tendency to stall at low speed, causing it to drop quite suddenly.
If that's what happened, then the pilot and trainee are quite lucky to have walked away.

They do move fast even when landing! One time I was on less than 1 mi. final in a 152 ( which is about 80 mph for you non-flyers) When the tower told me. Go around theres a T-38 on 15 mile final And by the time I was going over the numbers he was rolling out under me.
