Something has happened to bump this up to an order. It, in a way, is surrendering to a terrorist objective.

I suppose it could be pre-emptive, in that Omar Sheikh is going on trial for Danny Pearl's murder and US authorities expect trouble. Or it could have been the uncovering of a specific new plot against Americans.

But this decision wouldn't have been made lightly.

I don't think it is related to the Daniel Pearl murder case. The old order was issued on Monday. The US government knew about this court case on Monday.

Something has happened since Monday that has not made the press yet. Perhaps they were planning to start kidnapping Americans or the US is planning covert operations inside Pakistan. I'll stay close to FreeRepublic this weekend for any new information.

Old saying: Don't wish for your neighbor what you wish for yourself.

The terrorists might have a faulty list of goals.

I believe there was the same progression -- from travel warning, to voluntary evacuation, to mandatory evacuation -- before the Gulf War.

Tenent said last week that the threat of war between India and Pakistan is still high, but, of course, the media would rather focus on dog-attack trials and campaign finance.</sarcasm
