A Plea to President Bush
3/21/02 | Me

Posted on 03/21/2002 7:02:34 AM PST by RamsNo1

This is an open plea to the President of the United States of America. Please veto the campaign finance reform legislation. You have not as yet signed CFR even though you have indicated that you would. Please change your mind as everyone has the right to do so. Don't do it for me or anyone who is against this. Do it because it is just the right thing to do according to what this country was founded on. We need to see that your great leadership extends beyond the war arena to domestic policy.

You're talking to the wall.

He'll do what the polls tell him to do, like the last president.

And what are the polls saying? Do you have a link to any on this issue? I've looked at PollingReport.com but didn't find any.

It sickens me to no end to know that I can't argue with your sentiment.

Bush's Broken Promise.

I do not think Bush will sign it. He never said he would anyway. What he did say was that he would like to get a bill he could sign. That's different than saying he will sign it. Bush will not let us down.

Hello? Do you read the news at ALL?

For Immediate Release
Office of the Press Secretary
March 20, 2002
Statement by the President

Like many Republicans and Democrats in the Congress, I support common-sense reforms to end abuses in our campaign finance system. The reforms passed today, while flawed in some areas, still improve the current system overall, and I will sign them into law.

The legislation makes some important progress on the timeliness of disclosure, individual contribution limits, and banning soft money from corporations and labor unions, but it does present some legitimate constitutional questions. I continue to believe the best reform is full and timely disclosure of campaign contributions.
