Heads-up!
Rick Resorla is to be profiled on NBC's DateLine.
His role in Vietnam (featured as a chapter in "We Were Soldiers Once...And Young)
and his life-saving role (while losing his own) in 9-11 at the WTC will be covered.
Please note the URL above can be used to get to NBC's Dateline, but they
seem to be behind on their own schedule, as I see no listing of Rescorla on tonight's
show...but I saw Ms. Jane Pauley announce it at the end of last night's DateLine
and it's listed in my local (Major) newspaper.
Note Well: This episode will run TONIGHT, Wednesday 3-20-02, at 8PM Eastern/Pacific,
7PM Central.
Time to set the video-recorder or TIVO, if not yet done.
TOPICS: Culture/Society; Government

Greeting to those that I've pinged.

I couldn't find any notice about this after a quick search of the forum.
Please feel free to use your ping-lists to rally the troops!
ALOHA RONNIE, maybe you could give Hugh Hewitt a call this afternoon?
Cheers to all.

Just pinging.
Although I'm sure this will air in Los Angeles, you might be advised to check local listings,
before pinging others.
I'm fairly sure it will air nationwide...but just wanted to give you the caveat
in case NBC has made a scheduling goof.
Most likely, the webmaster of NBC DateLine has just failed to update their
site, given this is not a regular airing time for DateLine.
Just want to be sure folks understand this and don't get deflated if NBC doesn't
deliver the goods tonight.

Thanks for checking in.
And please do note my little caveat about the website for DateLine seeming to be
"behind the times".
I'm pretty sure it will air tonight...but best to "trust, but verify"!

from http://interstellar_web.tripod.com/dmza/id11.html I first learned of RICK RESCORLA after reading the excellent and compelling 1992 book about the early days of the Vietnam War, "We Were Soldiers Once...And Young" by Lt. Gen. Harold G. Moore and Joseph L. Galloway.
LT. RICK RESCORLA became a battlefield legend as Platoon Leader for Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry during the historic battle at Landing Zone X-Ray, in the "Valley of Death" the Ia Drang Valley in South Vietnam, November 1965.
A few hundred American soldiers were ambushed and surrounded by 2,000 North Vietnamese Army regulars and held the line against repeated assaults. RICK RESCORLA won the Silver Star for Bravery for his exploits in Vietnam.
After retiring from Army Reserves in 1990 as a Colonel, having earned Master's and law degrees, British born RICK RESCORLA went into corporate security and became Vice President for Group Security at Morgan Stanley Dean Witter on the 100th floor of the World Trade Center in New York City.
During the 1993 bombing at the WTC, RICK RESCORLA was the last person to evacuate the building.
Shortly after the attack on September 11th, RICK RESCORLA phoned his wife SUSAN while evacuating staff and told her "if anything happens to me, I want you to know you made my life."
Wife SUSAN says her husband was a wonderful man who made her smile and laugh every day. He knew every song in the world and loved to sing.
As reported by BBC and poignantly by actor Robin Williams during a recent telethon and tribute, RICK RESCORLA was last seen on the 10th Floor of the south tower of the World Trade Center, valiantly organizing people to safety, long after the building's stability had come into question.
Eyewitnesses report he was singing Cornish songs in an attempt to raise the spirits and ease the fear of those desperately trying to survive.
RICK RESCORLA was an American hero in more ways than one.
He never failed to hold the line. On the battlefield, in his job, and in life. He will not be forgotten.

Just pinging you gentleme in case you wish to give the show a plug.
Please note possible failure of NBC DateLine to list show, although announced
on last night's DateLine and in today's TV listings of the LA Times (bought for opposition
research and daily-dog-trainer purposes!)

Has his body ever been recovered?
I don't know.
My suspicion is that if his body had been carried out, it would have gotten some
measure of publicity, espcially as he also gained reknown for being the
"last man out" of the building in the 1993 WTC bombing.
Maybe someone in the forum can update us.
