An obituary appeared earlier this month under the byline of veteran Newsday writer Bill Kaufman. It began: "Gene C. Browne, a retired aerospace engineer for Grumman and a Tuskegee Airman during World War II who was a POW in Germany after his P-51 Mustang was shot down in combat, died Feb. 22 at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip. I had the supreme honor of meeting a group of these aviators. An airshow was apart of the ceremonies and I was given a VIP slot (due to a group I was involved in was flying in the show). There was a group of older gentlemen sitting right next to me and we chatted prior to the start of the show. It turns out they were a number of the Tuskegee Airman specially invited and had flow in from all over the country for the show.

He may have been there. I just don't remember. I was honored and humbled to meet those men.
